The Dartmouth College Library seeks applications and nominations
for the position of Director of User Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Librarian of the College, the
Director of User Services is responsible for the administration of
all user services units, including nine subject libraries, special
collections, and storage library. Also responsible for the
development and coordination of user services programs including
reference, instruction, circulation, and interlibrary loan.
Responsible for the recruitment and professional development of
librarians. Serves as a member of the administrative team which
also includes the Librarian of the College, the Director of
Collection Services and the Director of Administrative Services.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA/MLS; minimum of 5 years successful experience
in exercising progressively more demanding leadership
responsibilities in an academic research library. Demonstrated
ability to provide strong leadership , vision, and strategic
direction in complex organizations; understanding of library and
information resources and services that support teaching, research
and scholarship; knowledge of the broad range of issues involved
with the integration of information technologies. Excellent
communication skills, and an ability to work in a highly
collaborative environment.
RANK AND SALARY: Rank and salary commensurate with experience and
qualifications, with a minimum annual salary of $56,000; a
comprehensive benefits package; and relocation assistance.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LIBRARIAN
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Electronic Information Resources
Librarian, this position will help explore and develop promising new
technologies and electronic services, assist in the maintenance of library
Web pages and in the development and delivery of new library services via
the Web, provide instruction and training in the use of electronic
resources, and help maintain and support hardware and software
in a heterogenous computing environment.
Qualifications required: Extensive experience with PC's and Microsoft
operating systems and electronic/networkedresources; a strong record of
Web page design and content development; significant experience with Web
server administration; an in-depth understanding of a wide range of
computer hardware, software, and applications.
Preferred: Experience with NT server administration; familiarity with
Java, JavaScript, CGI scripting, PERL, SQL, and Visual Basic; a basic
knowledge of multiple operating systems, including Macintosh, VMS, UNIX,
Windows 3.1, 95, 98, and NT; teaching or instructional experience;
experience in an academic library (or equivalent related experience
and/or training).
Minimum salary: $28,000
This position is a twelve-month, tenure-track library faculty position
available immediately. Position requires an ALA-accredited M.L.S. or
international equivalent; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal
communication skills; and demonstrated professional achievement, service,
and scholarly/creative activity for reappointment and tenure.
Standard state benefits include state or TIAA/CREF retirement plans, 24
vacation days per year. Salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
