_ALA Website Advisory Task Force_

Created by the ALA Executive Board, the Website Advisory Task Force's
one-year mission is:

 * to advise the Internet Services unit on member priorities and policies;
 * to provide vision for new directions for the ALA website;
 * to elicit user feedback on content, usefulness, and potential
     applications;
 * to assess potential audiences and advise on appropriate strategies for
     serving them;
 * to review legal and ethical policies related to copyright, privacy,
     feedback, linkages, etc.;
 * to ensure compliance with ADA guidelines;
 * to identify new technical applications that may enhance the site;
 * and to establish an appropriate framework for standards relating to
     content, presentation, structure, currency, archiving, preservation,
     commerce, advertising, use of the ALA logo, technical
     sophistication, resource support, authentication, privacy,
     security, etc.

This charge and a list of task force members is available on the ALA
website at: http://www.ala.org/watf/ The task force will run through
annual conference 1999.

The Task Force will hold its first formal meeting in Washington, DC, on
Monday, 6/29/98 from 7-10 PM at the Renaissance Washington, Room 3.
Non-members are welcome to observe the meeting. However, we would like to
use the meeting as a time for TF members to meet one another and candidly
exchange their views so we would ask that comments be shared directly with
the chairs following the meeting. We _do_ welcome your input and would be
quite grateful if you would share all of your thoughts with us.
Additionally, we welcome thoughts from persons or groups involved in
designing and/or setting standards, but who are unable to attend the
meeting. Again, please feel free to send your ideas to the chairs.

Members who are interested in following the progress of the Task Force
are welcome to subscribe to the (read-only) ALAWEB@ALA.ORG list. See the
URL above for complete instructions on how to join the Listproc list.
