UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LIBRARIES
LIBRARY HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR
Responsibilities: Provides overall leadership and management of human
resources activities of the University of Houston Libraries. Coordinates
all activities in recruitment and selection of staff; manages the employee
relations function; and develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive
orientation and training program for library staff. Develops, implements
and maintains Library human resource policies and procedures in accordance
with University policies. Serves as liaison to the University's Office of
Human Resources and other appropriate external units and agencies.
Supervises one FTE staff. Reports to the Dean of Libraries.
Requirements: ALA-accredited Master's degree required. Requires
outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; staff development and
training skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with all
levels of staff; negotiation and conflict resolution skills; commitment to
affirmative action and equal employment opportunity; and ability to work
collegially and as part of a team. Management and supervisory experience
in an academic library strongly preferred.
Salary: $38,000, depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits package,
including health, dental, life and disability insurance; choice of
retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program
available; release time to take a class up to 3 hrs/week; no state or local
income tax.
Library Information: The Libraries are a member of the Association of
Research Libraries, hold over 1.8 million volumes, with a current materials

The Higher Colleges of Technology, United Arab Emirates is seeking
applicants for library supervisor. The successful candidate will
supervise college librarians, and other library staff in support of the
teaching and learning objectives of the college, will promote lifelong
learning, and be responsible for the general development of the Learning
Resource Center and Independent Learning Center. Specific duties
include management of the reference and bibliographic instruction
functions, assisting students and staff with traditional and
highly-automated information systems, collection development, teaching
of information skills and independent learning skills in a variety of
forums, budgeting, planning and developing library facilities.
Manditory requirements include an ALA accredited MLS or equivalent,
minimum of 5 years experience in an academic library setting and a high
level of English language communication skills. Previous supervisory
experience is desireable. Extensive computer skills, teaching skills
and experience in international or multicultural settings are
desirable. Salary range US $47,000 to US $51,000 with free unfurnished
accommodation, furnishings allowance, 56 days annual vacation, annual

TITLE: Information Technology Specialist/Librarian
New Brunswick Libraries
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to the Director of the New Brunswick Libraries and
works closely in a team environment with other New Brunswick librarians in
utilizing technology in the development of innovative projects and services for
students and faculty. Serves as a resource person for the Scholarly
Communication Center (SCC) and provides leadership and training in the
utilization of electronic tools such as authorware and computer-based
instruction, HTML tools, and expert systems, as well as various digital library
initiatives. Investigates and integrates the use of advanced tools and
emerging technologies for library programs.
Works with the SCC, Media Services, and other technology librarians to
collaborate with the university's Teaching Excellence Center, Computing
Services, Office of Television and Radio, and Department of Continuous
Education and Distance Learning. Prepares grant proposals for projects
utilizing the SCC facilities for library services. May participate in other NB
Libraries activities as appropriate. Research, publication, and involvement in

QUALIFICATIONS: An ALA accredited MLS degree with an emphasis on
information/computer technology or equivalent experience is required. A
candidate with an advanced degree such as a Master Degree in Educational
Technology or Information Technology will also be considered. Knowledge and
experience in information technologies relevant to an academic environment,
including authorware and other software applications, Windows NT, CD-ROM
technologies, and Internet protocols. Knowledge of UNIX, HTML, server
development and the creation of front end interfaces desirable. Must possess
excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to work
effectively in a multicultural academic environment.
SALARY: Dependent upon experience and qualifications with a minimum of $40,944
for a Librarian III tenure track appointment.

REFERENCE/PUBLIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN
GRADUATE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS/ECONOMICS LIBRARY
Entry-level position to provide in-depth and ready reference service,
library research instruction and public services in a heavily used,
dynamic library. Reports to Head, GSPIA/Economics Library. The
University Library System is an AA/EOE aggressively committed to

Responsibilities:
Provides reference, research, and public services in the GSPIA/Economics
Library.
Actively assists faculty, students, staff and other library users in the
GSPIA/Economics Library by providing reference and information service
during scheduled hours using print, non-print and electronic sources as
needed. Provides assistance in additional library functions including
circulation, interlibrary loan, reserves and other patron service
activities. Works effectively as a member of a small and busy team.
Maintains flexibility and prioritizes tasks as necessary in response to

acquisitions and assists Head of the Library in the general collection
development activities associated with building the International Affairs,
Public Administration, Urban Affairs, and Economics collections.
Conducts database searches for patrons' research and for interlibrary loan
citation verification and maintains records on usage of databases.
Maintains a current awareness of both national and international trends in
librarianship.
Maintains active knowledge of the academic and research programs related
to the GSPIA/Economics Library.
Participates in library activities such as task forces, committees,
training sessions, etc. as assigned.
Participates in professional activities as appropriate.
Provides reports as required.
Performs other duties as required.
