THE RESEARCH LIBRARIES GROUP, INC.
VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
PROGRAM OFFICER, BIBLIOGRAPHIC INITIATIVES
The Research Libraries Group seeks a dynamic individual to direct and
support bibliographic initiatives serving the needs of RLG member
institutions.
Responsibilities include:
* Plans, designs, and implements cooperative projects in
collaboration with RLG members, other program officers, national and
international agencies and experts; anticipates future projects and
activities that will enhance RLG's distinctive library services and build
RLG's bibliographic files into a truly global resource.
* Convenes member advisors to develop projects and initiatives that
respond to evolving member interests and needs. Develops funding
strategies and grant proposals to support new initiatives as appropriate.
* Develops strategies for supporting an expanding membership,
integrating RLG services within members' local environments, and for
enhancing programmatic activities and bibliographic initiatives.
* Identifies new data resources to support members' technical
services, collection development, or public/reader services, conveys user
needs, and helps design new tools that provide integrated access to a wider
variety of bibliographic resources.
* Advocates member needs and priorities within RLG; provides
information on trends and issues related to public or reader services and
the research process.
* Participates effectively on the Member Programs and Initiatives
team, which manages the collaborative activities of RLG members.
* Represents RLG nationally and internationally on issues and
activities in these areas; organizes forums or other outreach activities
for RLG members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS from an ALA-accredited institution and/or advanced degree in an
academic discipline (or the equivalent in education and experience).
Minimum five years professional experience working in a research library in
collection development and/or public services required.
Experience and demonstrated expertise in the research process, including
analyzing and supporting the scholarly information seeking process; working
knowledge of electronic information technology (including digital library
initiatives) as applied to scholarly research and instruction; familiarity
with at least one integrated library system and networked delivery of
different types of resources.
Proven ability to provide leadership in designing, developing, and
implementing a wide range of programs or projects at the institutional,
national, or international levels; to think creatively and strategically,
to analyze and solve problems; to administer activities involving
geographically dispersed constituencies.
Thorough understanding of public services or collection development in
research libraries, their relationship with technical services, and
awareness of current trends in research libraries.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to represent the corporation effectively in a leadership role
nationally and internationally.
Willingness to travel approximately 30 days a year.
SALARY: Commensurate with skills and experience.
With minimum five years applicable experience:
In-Hire: $3732 - $5310 per month
Full Range: $3732 - $6344 per month
With minimum eight years applicable experience:
In-Hire: $4354 - $6400 per month
Full Range: $4354 - $7620 per month

non-for-profit membership organization of leading educational, scientific,
and cultural institutions. RLG currently serves over 150 general and
special members and over 1,000 organizations and individual scholars who
use the Research Libraries Information Network (RLIN) database. RLG has
two primary functions: the development and operation of cooperative
programs to acquire, preserve, and extend access to research library,
museum, and archival holdings; and the development and operation of
bibliographic services that provides information access and management to
