Biomedical Information Specialist/Serials Cataloger
Edward G. Miner Library at the University of Rochester Medical Center
The Edward G. Miner Library at the University of Rochester Medical Center
has an immediate opening for a Biomedical Information Specialist/Serials
Cataloger. In this position, approximately 75% of the staff member's time
will be spent fulfilling the duties of the Biomedical Information
Specialist and 25%, Serials Cataloger. The staff member has a dual
reporting relationship to the Head of Information and Access Services and
to the Head of Special and Technical Services.
The Medical Center is building a new research facility to house 50
scientists, and the library will be an integral provider of a variety of
services to them. The other core user groups include the School of
Medicine and School of Nursing faculty, staff, students and Strong
Memorial Hospital staff. We also provide services to community physicians
who are affiliated with the Strong Health integrated healthcare delivery
system.
We are seeking a creative, dynamic candidate who can provide information
services, instruction, consulting, mediated database searching in a
variety of databases, and serve as a library liaison to our various user
groups. Our program goals include the provision of targeted outreach
services and educational programs in the use of a wide variety of
electronic resources to our off-site affiliates as well as our on-site
users.
The Biomedical Information Specialist participates in establishing
departmental goals and priorities. The Information Services department has
a staff of 6 librarians, each with responsibilities that extend into other
library programs such as Education, Technical Services, and Web Services.
As Serials Cataloger, the staff member will be cataloging new serial
titles, as well as monitoring title changes and making appropriate changes
in the bibliographic database.
Required: ALA accredited MLS. Educational background in the biomedical or
basic sciences. Experience with a wide variety of software applications
and in navigating the Internet. Excellent communication (both oral and
written), organization, and public service skills. Ability to adapt
quickly to a rapidly changing environment.
Preferred: Knowledge of HTML.
