POSITION:  Programming and Operations Specialist
    Systems Office
           Temple University Libraries
           Philadelphia, PA

QUALIFICATIONS:   Bachelor's degree required with course work in
computers, networking, programming, and telecommunications required.
Degree in computer science preferred. Equivalent training and
experience will be considered. Demonstrated knowledge and use of different
software languages including C, C++, HTML, JavaScript, PERL,
Visual Basic, and Microsoft Access. Experience with multiple computer
environments including Windows 95, NT, and Unix. Familiarity with
networking environments including Novell, Ethernet, and TCP/IP.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Installation, use, maintenance, upgrade, and
trouble-shooting of network and microcomputer hardware and software.
Provide programming for Internet/Web, LAN, and Intranet applications in
support of electronic library services.  Provide programming support for
Unix and NT server applications. Perform microcomputer programming as
needed to support library initiatives.  Carry out established processing
activities associated with the libraries integrated online library system.
Other duties as assigned.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: $26,299 minimum; actual salary will depend on
experience. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement
programs including TIAA-CREF. Tuition remission.

LIBRARY: Over 40 librarians and 80 support staff serving the main library,
six campus libraries and two suburban campus libraries.  Collections of
over 1,920,000 volumes and 12,000 serials. Temple has over 18,000 students
and 1,570 full time faculty.
