----------------------------Original message----------------------------
Northwestern University Libraries are pleased to announce the successful
introduction of NOTIS version 5.0.2 over the Labor Day weekend. Among the
many changes made to the basic public catalog are:

  - corrected sorting of titles appearing in author and subject indexes
  - improved handling of numerals, which allows search redirection to work
    in all cases
  - all help and explain screens rewritten
  - corrected generation and searching of call numbers

We also have our "amplified index" working in staff mode, and "search
qualification" is on the way; these two features will eventually appear in
the OPAC, as well. Support is also present for the new authority linking
fields (although the effect of this is not yet visible, as we have not yet
moved our LCSH/MeSH linking data into the new fields), and the new subdivision
fields.

We have retained the name "LUIS" for the entire system-wide information
service, which includes MEDLINE, and Expanded Academic Index. The public
catalog is now named "NUcat." A copy of our new handout is available on
request from Natalie Pelster, chair of the LUIS Instruction Committee
(npelster@casbah.acns.nwu.edu).

Use these Internet addresses to gain access to Northwestern's new public
catalog:

    nuacvm.acns.nwu.edu or
    129.105.16.1
