Position Announcement
TITLE: Head of Information Technology Services Department
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head of the Information Technology Services
Department provides leadership for the planning, development,
implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the Libraries=92 techn=
ology
efforts, including the infrastructure and operating systems of the ne=
twork,
hardware and software used throughout the library, and the distribute=
d
computing environment. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, this posi=
tion
manages a department of 2 professionals and 2.5 support staff, super=
vises
the day to day operation of the Libraries=92 systems, and develops te=
chnology
plans for future growth in coordination with other Library department=
heads,
administration, and other campus libraries, as well as Academic Compu=
ting
Services.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited degree is required. Preference will=
be
given to applicants with an additional degree or coursework in a
computer-related field. Three years experience in libraries. Experi=
ence
with integrated library systems such as DRA or Innopac; automated cat=
aloging
systems such as OCLC or RLIN; coordinating Web resources; and PC ope=
rating
systems. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in =
systems
management in an academic library, experience with a Windows environm=
ent,
OpenVMS, and network administration. In addition to the required deg=
ree and
experience, the successful applicant will have highly developed
communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong se=
rvice
orientation. Strong supervisory skills and demonstrated leadership a=
bility
are also needed. Must have ability to work successfully in a team
environment. Must demonstrate evidence of problem-solving skills an=
d
ability to meet deadlines. Preference will be given to applicants wi=
th
management experience.
SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary range of $50,000 to $57,000. Appointment wil=
l be in
a tenure-track position with rank of assistant or associate librarian=
.
Benefits include choice of retirement programs, including TIAA-CREF; =

enses;
and no state or local income tax.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Texas Tech University, with an enrollment of ov=

25,000 students, is one of four major state universities in Texas. A=

range of academic programs is offered in eleven colleges and schools,
including law and medicine. Texas Tech is a member of ARL. The Univ=

Library has over 1.3 million volumes and a budget of over $8 million =
