Duties and responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Director, Library and
Documentation Systems Division, take overall management
responsibility for all library operations and services.  In
particular:

formulate long- and medium-term programmes of library activities
and services;

manage library budget, personnel, services and storage
facilities;

organize and coordinate all professional and technical library
work;

evaluate all library processing and service activities;

assist library staff in technical divisions at Headquarters,
Regional and FAO Representatives Offices, and Field Projects
through technical guidance and training;

liaise with other information systems such as AGRIS, and
coordinate AGLINET;

represent the library officially as required;

perform, other related duties as required.

Qualifications and experience - Essential

University degree and postgraduate diploma in library science.

Ten years of increasingly responsible professional and management
experience in a large technical library, preferably in an
international organization.  Experience in relating library
services to the needs of an international organization with a
large staff of technical and administrative workers.  Experience
in computerized library processing techniques.

Working knowledge (level C) of two languages (English, French or
Spanish).

Ability to deal tactfully with library users both internal and
external to the Organization. Ability to direct and supervise a
staff of professional librarians and clerical workers, and to
work in harmony with people of different nationalities and
cultural backgrounds.  Effective communication skills.

Willingness to use word-processing equipment,

Qualifications and experience - Desirable

Academic qualifications in one of the fields of the Organization.

Limited knowledge (level b) of a third language shown above.

The appointment is for 3 years (renewable) and carries a net
salary of US$79,215 to 93,624 (without dependents) and US$85,539
to 101,623 (with dependents.
