                FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY
                       LIBRARY POSITIONS

The University: Florida International University, the fastest
growing unit of the State University System of Florida and one
of the most rapidly growing urban, multicampus comprehensive
universities in the United States invites applications for
three library positions.  Offering over 200 undergraduate/
graduate programs, and a student enrollment of 30,000 students
from all 50 states and 120 countries, FIU prides itself on
the cultural and ethnic diversity of its students and faculty,
and on the advantages of Greater Miami's vibrant sociocultural
setting.

The Libraries: Dominating the University Park Campus is a new
8-story library designed for state-of-the-art information
technology. At the North Campus thirty miles away is a second
state-of-the-art library. The total library collections comprise
more than 1,100,000 volumes,and subscriptions to scholarly
journals exceed 7,000. The Libraries also provide access to over
170 databases and services, including statewide OPAC (NOTIS)
with mounted databases & gateways to remote services and numerous

The Positions:
Interlibrary Loan Librarian (North Campus, position # 045000 )
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for providing interlibrary loan
service, supervision and operational management of document
delivery and intercampus loan services, including support staff
and student assistants. Occasional evening and weekend hours are
required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited
institution; evidence of excellent interpersonal skills; ability
to work cooperatively in a rapidly changing environment; demonstrated
ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; and
experience or coursework in resource sharing technologies and
services.  Rank: Instructor Librarian. Salary: $27,000 Closing
date: May 4, 1998.

Documents Information Services Librarian (University Park, position
# 44616)
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides public services and technical support
for government document collections, including federal, state, local
and urban document collections; supervises and develops the local
documents collection; develops and maintains library map collection;
serves as liaison to Cataloging Department; works evenings and weekends
as scheduled. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited
institution; evidence of excellent interpersonal skills; ability to
work cooperatively in a rapidly changing environment; demonstrated
ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; basic
computer skills in a PC/Windows 95 environment; and experience or
coursework in government documents. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience
in technical processing; experience in web page design and creation.
Rank: Instructor Librarian. Salary: $27,000 Closing date: May 4, 1998.

Science Information Services Librarian (University Park, position
# 44644)
RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as liaison with science/engineering
departments in the development of printed/digital collections;
instructional programs and materials; and extended reference services;
provides general reference services, including library instruction,
electronic reference services, reference desk coverage, and development
of the reference collection; works evenings and weekends as scheduled.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution;
coursework in the sciences or engineering; strong interpersonal and
communication skills; basic computer skills in a PC/Windows 95 environment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience as a reference librarian in a sci/tech
setting; degree in sciences or engineering; skills in searching online
databases and the Internet.  Experience in Web page design and creation
a plus.  Rank: Instructor through University Librarian. Salary: $27,000 -
$41,000, commensurate with rank, qualifications, and experience. Closing
date: June 1, 1998.

Benefits for all positions: 22 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave.
