I would just like to add a hearty second to Bill Drew's recent suggestion on
the management of Dr. Internet's messages and the use of a filter to effect
the immediate transfer of these messages to the email trash bin. I have used
this approach for the last couple of years (using Eudora Pro's filtering
rules) and it's done wonders for my equanimity.... I heartily recommend it
to others. (Another useful filter I have found is the occurrence of the
characters "Vigdor" in a mail header.)
There is one disadvantage to this approach. I do occasionally feel pangs of
guilt that I am not contributing to the regular warnings and corrections to
the mis-information that goes on for the overall good. No question that this
is useful work. But I am heartened by the fact that there seems to be no
shortage of others who take on this task (some a bit too seriously...) and
the "perpetrators" seem to come up with ever creative ways to encourage and
aggravate such responses. So, I sleep well.
