I=B4d like to thank Jones, Mattison, Gee and Citroen for their useful=
l=20
responses to my previous messagge "digitalization times" on Wed,=20
12 Nov 1997. I'd collected the answers so I can send them upon=20
request.
We are working on that and know I=B4d like to explore you're=20
experience in the following aspects of digititation of large collecti=
ons,=20
=66rom paper to digital files:
-Using High Speed Scanners. Best price/performance ratio,=20
recomendations of models and providers are very welcomed, technical=
=20
tips, best OPEN standard outputs (we=B4re not willing to use propier=
tary
formats...) Is it the 400dpi resolution that I=B4m finding in the he=
avy-weight=20
league well enough for OCR afterwards?
-Digititation of microfiles... what a headache!! If we have lots of
information=20
in this format, what to do for puting it on-line? is it too expensiv=
e? is
it better
to scan again? How to transform this to raster digital files in orde=
r to
apply
OCR afterwards?
-What to do with thousands (many thousands) of pages saved in MOD dis=
ks
of an old Canofile if we=B4d like to save this in a more open and po=
rtable
format?
Once again thanks a lot for all your usefull tips.
