Information Literacy Librarian

Salem State College is seeking a professional librarian to be respons=
ible
for the training of library patrons and staff in the following areas:=

identification of information needs; the location, retrieval, evaluat=

and synthesis of information; and the use of electronic, traditional,=

non-traditional resources.  Required qualifications include an ALA
accredited Master=92s Degree in Library Science, 2 years of full-time
experience in reference and library instruction in an academic enviro=
nment,
in-depth knowledge of electronic and traditional reference resources =
and
trends, experience in creating web pages, the ability to communicate
effectively and to recognize the information needs of library patrons=
, and
a demonstrated commitment to information literacy and library instruc=
tion.
A subject masters degree and experience in and commitment to working =
in a
multi racial, multi ethnic environment with patrons of diverse backgr=
ounds,
learning styles and abilities are preferred.  Salary is $34,000 minim=
um,
dependent upon education and experience.

Revised Position Requirements

ELECTRONIC SERVICES AND WEB DEVELOPMENT LIBRARIAN
(Revised)

        The Bowdoin College Library seeks an innovative librarian to join
an enthusiastic staff committed to integrating technology into library
services.  This 32 month, grant-funded position reports to the Associate
Librarian for Public Services. Duties include: coordinating planning and
providing technical expertise for electronic reference services and
collaboratively designed library technology projects; overseeing  team
effort to develop and maintain the Librarys Web gateway
(http://www.bowdoin.edu/dept/library); overseeing and participating in
the acquisition, installation and maintenance of hardware/software in
collaboration with campus computing and library staff; developing staff
training programs; and, as a member of the reference team,  providing
general reference services.

Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS  required; one to two years experience
planning and implementing electronic reference services highly desirable;
demonstrated expertise in Web development and design including knowledge
of HTML, web toolkits and UNIX; demonstrated project management,
organizational and supervisory experience; expertise in set-up and
troubleshooting of computer hardware and software, knowledge of emerging
trends in electronic reference services, Web development, Internet
technology, imaging, multimedia production and presentation; excellent
communication, team-building and interpersonal skills; demonstrated
ability to provide individual/group instruction and reference service
with sensitivity to differing learning styles.
