DIRECTOR OF OTTENHEIMER LIBRARY
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of the
Director of the Ottenheimer Library. The University of Arkansas at
Little Rock, located in the geographic, economic, political, and
social center of the state, is a comprehensive, public, doctoral-
granting, metropolitan university with an enrollment exceeding
10,000. The Little Rock campus is one of eight campuses in the
University of Arkansas System. The Ottenheimer Library encompasses
332,000 volumes and has a FTE staff of 9 professional librarians and
26 staff. UALR seeks a library director who is eager to advance the
Ottenheimer Library to meet the challenges in the twenty-first
century at a maturing university with a strong commitment to
teaching and research. This is a dean's level position reporting
directly to the Vice Chancellor/Provost.
Responsibilities include articulating and executing library
policies; overall administration of and long-range planning for the
library according to ACRL standards; administering the procurement
and spending of funds in the library's budget; directing
professional and support staff according to University guidelines;
actively participating in the library profession at the national,
state, and local levels; and communicating with all academic units
to promote the library's role within the University's mission.
Requirements are an ALA-accredited advanced degree; experience with
a broad range of library functions gained through professional
advancement; substantial academic or research library administrative
experience; strong leadership, management, and communication skills;
familiarity with automated systems and current knowledge of
technology applications issues; and a strong commitment to service.
Position available summer, 1998. Tenure track faculty rank. Salary
is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
