POSITION TITLE:
Library Information Specialist  # 000178

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Challenging position for a service and results oriented individual
with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.  Reporting to the
Assistant Director of Library Information Systems, the
selected candidate will provide technical support to the library
staff in the areas of computing, hardware, software and
telecommunications.  Primary responsibilities include managing
the VAX systems; building and maintaining the  Library
web pages; and maintaining the Sun computer and the OVID software
including upgrades,  backups and file system maintenance.  Duties
also include troubleshooting,  analysis of systems problems and
projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's of Library Science and a minimum of two years of library or
related computer experience.  The preferred candidate will have
experience with operating a library automation system (preferably
DRA), procedures documentation, and project management. Knowledge of
Windows 95 or NT,  Novell or NT local area networks, Ethernet,
operating systems (UNIX or VMS), Visual Basic, applications for the
World Wide Web, Internet interfaces and E-mail applications are
highly desirable.

SALARY:
Commensurate with experience

DIGITAL LIBRARY PROJECT LIBRARIAN, DIGITAL LIBRARY PRODUCTION SERVICE

DUTIES:
The Digital Library Program (DLP) is a collaborative program to develop
the campus information infrastructure.  Jointly funded by the Library,
Information Technology Division, and the School of Information and Library
Studies, the program addresses projects which build infrastructure, add
digital content, and build essential tools for information access.  The
Digital Library Production Service (DLPS) is a jointly supported
organization with staff from multiple units on campus.  DLPS focuses on
the design and development of storage and access systems for digital
collections in a variety of formats.

Over a dozen projects are underway within the DLP.  Many of the projects
involve work with publishers and coordination with staff within the
Library, ITD, and School of Information.  The Project Librarian will work
with the Digital Library Production Service Head and the Assistant
Director for Digital Librarian Initiatives, depending on the specific
project.

The position will have responsibilities to coordinate tasks, handle
components of specific projects, and contribute to digital library access
systems development for specific collections.  Activities will be
designated by the AD or Head of the Digital Library Production Service.
Examples of potential project assignments include assisting the DLI and
Rackham in the exploration of issues relating to digital dissertations and
theses (encoding sample dissertations, analyzing encoding, and supervising
students in encoding subsequent dissertations), and assisting in the
development of the University of Michigan Gateway and the University
Library Digital Registry, working with various Library units and
committees, as well as the Library Systems Office.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:   ALA-accredited Masters in library or information science;
experience in library or related information technology environment;
facility with computer productivity tools, client/server systems, World
Wide Web resource design; experience with multiple data/document
structures, including specifically SGML; ability to work independently;
demonstrated oral and written communication skills.  Demonstrated ability
to work effectively with staff, faculty, and students of culturally
diverse backgrounds.

Desired:   Knowledge of publisher environment.

RANK, SALARY, & LEAVE:  Rank of Assistant Librarian.  Final salary
dependent on years of previous relevent experience (minimum salary -
$29,500); 24 working days of  vacation/year; 15 days of sick leave/year
with provisions for extended benefits.

Technology/Circulation Manager
Santa Fe (NM) Public Library

Santa Fe (New Mexico) Public Library is seeking a Technology/Circulation
Manager. Acts as liaison with and manages Innovative Interfaces integrated
library system with MIS Division and library automation team.  Coordinates
system-wide circulation services and oversees and supervises activities of
Main Library circulation unit. Prepares and maintains yearly system-wide
circulation unit budget.  Has primary responsibility for circulation and
patron databases.  Works with the technical services librarian to maintain
the bibliographic and item database.   Participates in  overall technology
planning, including library and serial databases, CD-Rom products and
network development.  Researches and recommends new technology to better
serve the public and staff.

Minimum qualifications:  Masters degree in Library Science (MLS) plus two
(2) years of professional library experience in the area of assignment, or a
bachelors degree and four (4) years of professional experience in the area
of assignment, including supervisory experience totaling one (1 ) year.
Strong working knowledge of library circulation operations and database
management required.   Also desirable is experience in two (2) or more of
the following areas:  website creation and management, networks,
telecommunications, PC support, and the Innovative Interfaces environment.
Salary Range is  $16.46-$27.16 per hour. The City of Santa Fe is an EOE.
