SERIALS LIBRARIAN (NEW POSITION)
RANK:
Instructor or Assistant Professor depending upon qualifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage periodicals unit. Implement and manage automated serials module of
an integrated library system (Horizon). Prepare local holdings and check-in
information for input into the serials system, acquire and maintain journals
and journal collection including electronic journals, establish procedures,
conduct collection studies and compile reports, assist in training serials
staff. Responsible for data input into Tennessee Union List of Serials.
Occasional reference hours. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
An ALA-accredited master's degree is required. Experience in an academic
library and two years experience in serials acquisitions preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with an integrated online library
system; familiarity with LC classification, MARC formats, OCLC preferred;
familiarity with serials trade and binding vendors. Friendly, open manner
and ability to work cooperatively with university faculty and other library
colleagues and staff. Effective supervisory, interpersonal and communication
skills are essential. Versatility and flexibility. Well rounded general
education and range of experiences. Commitment to professional development.
APPOINTMENT:
This new position is tenure track with faculty status and rank. Appointment
at Instructor or Assistant Professor rank depending upon qualifications.
Conditions: 12 month contract with 24 days annual leave, 12 paid holidays,
and 12 sick days. Salary is competitive. Retirement is paid entirely by the
State; participation may be in state retirement system or TIAA. State pays
80% of a health insurance policy.
UNIVERSITY:
Austin Peay State University is a state supported institution within the
Tennessee Board of Regents System and has been designated the liberal arts
university of the system. It has approximately 5,400 FTE students and 230
faculty. It is in Clarksville, TN, population 75,000, located 45 miles

COMPLETE JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
CATALOG/ARCHIVES LIBRARIAN: University of Colorado at Colorado Springs,
Library, Faculty tenure-track vacancy.
DUTIES: Management of cataloging operations and University Archives;
original cataloging of monographs, serials, non-book materials and
electronic resources; some reference desk duties; some subject liaison
responsibilities including collection development and bibliographic
instruction; participation in library policy formulation; and campus and
professional service. Reports to Head of Technical Services.
REQUIRED: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school; minimum three years
post-MLS cataloging experience; comprehensive knowledge of LC
classification and subject headings, AACR2 and MARC formats, OCLC or other
bibliographic utility.
DESIRABLE: Supervisory experience; familiarity with integrated systems,
especially Innovative; serials and government documents cataloging
experience; archives and reference experience. Knowledge of current
trends in cataloging, particularly those related to electronic resources;
and especially knowledgable of computer and web-based applications.
SALARY: Range of $30,000-$35,000 for a 12-month tenure track faculty
appointment.

BACKGROUND: UCCS is a young, growing university offering undergraduate,
graduate and professional programs in the liberal arts and sciences,
education public affairs, business and engineering. The campus has 4,500
FTE students with a head count of 6,500 students. An Innovative system
will be installed in 1998.
