Collection Development Team Leader
Arkansas State University

We seek a Collection Development Team Leader to join our Library and
administer our collection of approximately 2500 serials titles,
1,500,000 volumes, and an acquisitions budget approaching $1 millon.

Environment:  Arkansas State University is located in State University,
Arkansas (Jonesboro), halfway between the Mississippi River Delta and
the Ozark Mountains, approximately one hour northwest of Memphis,
Tennessee.  Undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees are offered,
with a student enrollment of approximately 10,000.

The Library is the focal center of the campus, and the expansion was
dedicated in 1994.  The Library also contains the Delta Studies Center,
the Center for Learning Technolgy (faculty) and a student computer
center administered by Computer Services.

Responsibilities:
1. Supervises five para-professionals in the following areas: Bindery
processing; Serials and standing order; processing;  Mailroom;
Periodicals reference services; Inventory; Conservation.
2. Meets with vendors;
3. Monitors departmental materials budgets;
4. Creates reports for faculty, accrediting teams and others.; manages
automated acquisitions subsystem (VTLS);
5. Facilitates library's collection development committee;
6. Recommends collection management policies and oversees
implementation;
7. Maintains effective relationships with faculty to assist their
selection of materials for library;
8. Communicates with donors and processes gifts;
9. Serves the library by participating on strategic initiative teams and =
serves the university community through teaching and/or committee =
service.

Qualifications:

 Masters in library science from ALA accredited program
 Two years professional leadership in collection development
 Excellent communication skills
 Ability to work with a diverse group of faculty students and staff
 Strong commitment to client services
 Understanding of collection development trends and trends in scholarly
communication and publishing
 Experience with electronic information resources

     Desired:

 Experience with and interest in occasionally providing reference
service and/or bibliographic instruction
 Skill in negotiating electronic information licensing agreements
 Project planning
 Budget analysis and forecasting
 Experience in a team-based library environment

Salary:  $35,000 negotiable.

Head of Library User Services.

The Head of User Services provides leadership for the major
public service units  of the University Libraries.

User Services at the Virginia Tech Libraries includes instructional and
media services, an innovative College Librarian program with library
faculty located in Virginia Tech's six Colleges, assistance desks for
library users, and circulation/stack maintenance services.  Staff includes
21 faculty and 35 classified positions.  We are looking for a division
leader who is excited about academic libraries and who understands that,
more than ever, library services and resources can make an important
difference in how the university community participates in learning,
teaching, and research.

The Head of Library Services participates in the Library Advisory Council,
and is expected to work as a team member in cross-unit initiatives.
Reports to the Dean of Libraries.

The position is a twelve-month faculty appointment; salary/rank
commensurate with experience and credentials.

Qualifications:  MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution; advanced
degree preferred.  Five or more years experience in academic library
services including instruction and reference; three or more years of
leadership and evaluation of staff and management of human resources.
Strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal abilities for working
with staff and collaborating with other university departments; good
technical skills including experience with development of web services;
management skills including creative abilities to maximize budget and
personnel allocations.  Knowledge of current trends in user services.
Finalists invited for interview must demonstrate communication skills and
knowledge of public services through a presentation to library faculty and
staff and other members of the university community.

The Milton S. Eisenhower Library seeks an outgoing and enthusiastic
librarian to help a team of four librarians transform the
Science/Engineering Library into a client- and technology-centered
information service.  The Science/Engineering Library is a newly renovated
floor in the main library with a collection of 322,000 volumes, 2,700
current periodicals, and a large and expanding number of electronic
resources.  The Acquisitions budget for science and engineering is
approximately $2,500,000.  A team, including the Science Coordinator,
select library resources and provide reference, instructional and liaison
services to the 20 science and engineering departments on Homewood campus
of Johns Hopkins University .  The Science/Engineering Library is a unit
within the Resource Services Department of the Milton S. Eisenhower
Library.

The Eisenhower Library has just completed a major renovation of its
central facility, is implementing an aggressive digital library program,
and has embarked on library-wide leadership development and diversity
initiatives.

The Eisenhower Library values initiative, creativity, professionalism and
teamwork.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and deliver, with the team and individually, a  range of
traditional and innovative library services that facilitate the research
and teaching needs of the science and engineering faculty and students in
the assigned academic departments. Fulfilling these responsibilities
includes cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with faculty and
students, selecting traditional and electronic resources for the
collection, providing subject-related consultive and instructional
services,  communicating effectively with the client group to facilitate
awareness of the rich array of available services, and developing
Web-based resources in assigned subject areas.  A high level of
interaction between faculty and students and the librarian is essential.
Manage 4-6 subject funds depending on background and experience.

Serve as a member of  the Resource Services Department which includes
providing general reference service and participating in departmental
activities,  the Science/Engineering Library team, and work with
library-wide groups and other science library groups in the Hopkins system
to coordinate services,  initiate projects and implement programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED: MLS from an ALA accredited library school. Degree in science or
engineering field or experience serving a similar user population.
Two-three years of collection development and/or reference experience in
an academic, special or science/engineering library.  Demonstrated ability
to conduct seminars and instructional programs.  Ability to work well with
colleagues and  a demanding user group.  The ability to work flexibly and
creatively in a changing environment. Willingness to work a flexible
schedule, including evenings and week-ends.  HIGHLY DESIRED: Experience
working with information and networked technologies, including designing
and creating web sites and pages.  Reading knowledge of German.
