Position: Public Services/Circulation Librarian. Salary range
$30-35,000 depending upon qualifications. 12 month position.
Responsibilities include: management of automated circulation/reserve
areas; management of circulation module of library's automated system
(DRA); management of evening public services and closing of building;
supervision, training, and scheduling of student assistants. Shares
responsibilities for reference and library instruction with other staff.
Participates in campus committee work. Works Sunday - Thursday, 3pm -
11pm, with later hours during midterms and finals. Minimum
qualifications: ALA accredited MLS. Three years professional library
experience. Supervisory experience. Demonstrated commitment to public
services. Excellent communication skills. Reference experience.
Willingness to work as a team member. Ability to work independently.
Highly desirable: Academic library experience, experience with automated

The Somerville Community Computing Center, a public access technology
center, seeks a part-time (potential for full-time) Executive Director.
This is an opportunity to take a leadership role in an organization with
strong local history, regional significance and a national reputation.
In a period of transition, the directorship of the SCCC provides an
energetic individual the chance to develop the center in entrepreneurial
ways, create new programs, and reach out even more effectively to
communities and individuals of need, all within the constantly changing
context of technology. The Executive Director will work with a
supportive board of directors and a dedicated team of volunteers.
Responsibilities include daily operations, financial administration,
fundraising, grant writing, program development and training,
volunteer/staff development and supervision, board development, public
relations, and establishing collaborative and cooperative community
relationships.
The successful candidate should possess exceptional leadership and
communication skills, grant writing experience, proficiency in personal
computers/technology, community organizing, project management skills;
and the ability to advocate for our mission and programs. Excellent
writing and organizational skills and the abilities to work both
independently, as well as with others, are also required. Interpersonal
skills more pertinent than technical skills.
A variety of kinds of experiences will serve in this position: adult
education, technology startups, community service learning,

L&S/COMPUTER SCIENCES - Special Librarian
The Special Librarian will be a part of the Internet Scout Project in the
Computer Sciences Department at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
The Internet Scout Project is funded by the National Science Foundation,
and the term of the current grant is through April 30, 2000.
The successful candidate will catalog and classify Internet resources
that are announced in the Scout Report and Subject-Specific Scout Reports
each week, as well as assist with the retrospective cataloging of two
years of Scout Report Archives. While no supervisory duties are included
in the position, it is expected that this will be a leadership position
within the group, and that this individual will contribute on various
levels to the overall success of the project.

**DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION**
M.L.S. or corresponding experience is required, with a specialization in
electronic and networked information storage, searching, and retrieval.
Also required is knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification
Numbers, Library of Congress Subject Headings, the Anglo-American
Cataloguing Rules 2nd edition (AACR2) and USMARC format as well as
emerging standards such as the Dublin Core. Experience using these tools
in the cataloging and indexing of resources is required. Literacy on
both the Macintosh and PC platforms is highly desirable.
**MINIMUM NUMBER OF YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE**
- Minimum 3 years work experience in an academic or special library
environment working on the development and support of online resources.
Minimum 2 years experience cataloging and indexing resources. (Can be
concurrent.) Experience in cataloging science and engineering resources
is highly desirable.
- Minimum 3 years experience using the Internet, resulting in extensive
knowledge of Internet resources and tools.
- Very good writing, public speaking, and general communication skills.
**PRINCIPAL DUTIES**
1. Identify and describe bibliographic information about Internet
resources using the standards established in Anglo-American Cataloguing
Rules 2nd edition (AACR2) and USMARC format as well as emerging standards
such as the Dublin Core.
2. Do subject analysis of Internet resources by identifying and assigning
multiple subject headings using the Library of Congress Subject Headings
(online and print versions) and assigning multiple Library of Congress
Classification Numbers using both print and electronic versions of the
classification. Enter bibliographic data into Filemaker database
following established data entry guidelines.
3. Contribute problem solving skills and proactive research to the
overall development and success of the Scout Report Signpost.
4. Contribute to other ongoing Internet Scout research projects by
participating in discussions and providing research support where needed.
5. Research the Internet for electronic resources and tools most useful
to the academic community. Filter, organize, and annotate the information
for publication in the Scout Report or one of the Subject-Specific Scout
Reports.
6. Inform and educate the higher-education academic community about
effective resource discovery on the Internet through published papers,
articles, and public speaking engagements at academic conferences.
Domestic travel may be required.
