ELECTRONIC SERVICES AND WEB DEVELOPMENT LIBRARIAN:

        The Bowdoin College Library seeks an experienced and innovative
librarian to join an enthusiastic staff committed to integrating
technology into library services.  This 32 month, grant-funded position
reports to the Associate Librarian for Public Services. Duties include:
coordinating planning and providing technical expertise for electronic
reference services and collaboratively designed library technology
projects; overseeing  team effort to develop and maintain the Librarys
web gateway (http://www.bowdoin.edu/dept/library); overseeing and
participating in the acquisition, installation and maintenance of
hardware/software in collaboration with campus computing and library
staff; developing staff  training programs; and, as a member of the
reference team,  providing general reference services.

Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS with a minimum two years, post-Masters
degree experience in planning and implementing electronic reference
services; demonstrated expertise in web development including knowledge
of HTML, web toolkits and UNIX, with experience in web design and
JavaScript highly desirable; knowledge of emerging trends in electronic
reference services, web development and Internet technology, imaging and
multimedia production and presentation; demonstrated supervisory,
organizational and project management experience; excellent
communications, team-building and interpersonal skills; demonstrated
ability to provide individual/group instruction and reference service
with sensitivity to differing learning styles; expertise in set-up and
troubleshooting of computer hardware and software.
