"PREDICTING THE NEXT THREE YEARS of Library Technology"

is the topic of

RMG's Eighth Annual Presidents' Seminar: The View from the Top

January 9, 1998 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., New Orleans

(Location to be announced, once assigned by ALA, at:
http://homepage.interaccess.com/~rmg/text/seminar98.html)

What do the presidents of the leading library technology companies predict
for the next three years?

Top executives of the leading vendors of integrated library systems are
asked in this free seminar to frame comments and questions for each other
and the audience on topics such as:

* What do Library buyers want in the next three years? What will the
state-of-the-art library automation technology and "Next-Generation
Systems" be three years from now?

Object Technologies - Applets - Object vs. Relational Databases - Network
Computers

* What is the future of Z39.50 and ILL?

* How much progress will there be "Toward the Digital Library World?"

* What general business and technology trends will impact the library
industry?

* What will the library automation industry look like in three years? Will
today's remaining founders/owners still be in charge? Will the differences
between private ownership and public ownership be significant?

* Will we see more convergence among booksellers, content providers, and
library automation companies?

* How will the development of "Next-Generation Systems" affect today's
vendors? Can all of them manage the transition successfully?

* Will Outsourcing / Co-sourcing be more or less important?

The ground rules for this panel of top executives are to keep their
discussions of libraries and technology at professional and industry-wide
levels -- but not to make sales pitches or to promote their companies.

This free seminar is part of RMG's commitment to the continuing education
of the library community on the impact of new technologies, and to show
appreciation for vendors, buyers, and users of automated library systems
who have made the industry robust and dynamic. Registration is not
required. For further information contact: Brian Mahany or Odette Alleyne
