Temporary, possibility of annual renewal
University of Hawaii Library
Full-time, temporary position available October 1, 1992-June 30, 1993 with
possibility of extension pending availability of funds and needs of the
department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Head of the Library Systems Office,
provide UHCARL technical support to the Univ. of Hawaii system and other
libraries as they come online with the UHCARL automated library network.
Position will function as a critical communications link between the Univ. of
Hawaii at Manoa Library Systems Office and client libraries. Duties combine
training and consultative functions with technical, computer operations, and
administrative support in order to facilitate, schedule and/or perform the
wide variety of activities associated with implementing and maintaining
distributed sites in a networked library system. Position is located at the
UH Hamilton Library, however, the librarians will be expected to make site
visits and travel to meetings off-campus and on other islands as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
ALA accredited MLS; previous experience using an automated system in an
academic library; ability to work in a team-oriented environment and
establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of
librarians, library staff and computing and telecommunication specialist
personnel; ability to translate technical library or computer concepts into
terms understandable by non-technical library, computing or telecommunication
staff; ability to communicate with all levels of staff orally and by
preparation of written reports.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional post-MLS course work in library automation; experience in
automated library system support; familiarity with principles of systems
analysis; knowledge of the capabilities, uses and operating requirements of
automated library systems, particularly in a networked environment; ability
to plan, schedule and/or supervise a variety of library and computer related
operations; familiarity with computer operations in a mainframe or
minicomputer environment (Tandem or CARL system experience highly preferred).
