This directory contains sub-directories for Project Chapman,
the cooperative effort between the Smithsonian Institution and
the Apple Library of Tomorrow. The goal is to make available
images from the Smithsonian Prints and Photographs Division
using JPEG file compression and different browsing applications.
Included are descriptions of various programs as well as
sample images. More images will be added later.---

alchemy.txt contains information about an application
for browsing JPEG/JFIF files. For DOS and Sun users.
hypercard is a directory containing a package of three
Hypercard stacks, ImageBrowser, JFIF stack, MakeJFIF.
These have been compacted and binhexed. Use with
HyperCard 2.1.
ChapmanCat.bin is a catalog of the images in HyperCard
format. Binary file.
ChapmanCat.sit.hqx is the binhexed version.
ImageBrowser allows you to browse JFIF images over a
TCP/IP network (if you are using MacTCP) or over an
AppleTalk network. The other two can be used to make
various conversions: from JPEG to JFIF (including uuencoding)
or from JFIF to JPEG. The images may be viewed, saved,
and PICT files can be compressed.
