Just wanted to call your attention to an article in the
October 17 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education.
The article is called "In the New Model of the Research
Library, Unused Books are Out, Computers Are In," and
is in the Information Technology section, pages A27-28.
A couple of quotes:
"At the end of a narrow, tree-lined road 30 miles from
its campus, Harvard University runs a model library
for the information age: a book warehouse"
and later in the article:
"Librarians select the least-used materials for storage
in these warehouses, leaving more room in traditional
spaces for the kinds of services that modern library
users demand: computer stations, mutlimedia classrooms,
coffee bars."
