Two Reference Librarian Positions: Bailey/Howe Library, University of Vermont

The University of Vermont, Bailey/Howe Library invites applications for two
joint positions in its Reference and U.S. Government Documents Departments.
Successful candidates will provide reference assistance at service desks in
both the Reference and Government Documents Departments.  They will
participate in an active bibliographic instruction program centered in a
modern electronic classroom.  Additional responsibilities include authoring
user guides and instructional aids in a variety of print and non-print
formats, participation in distance learning and e-mail reference services
and selection of materials for the reference and documents collections.
Scheduling requires rotating evening and weekend assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants are required to have a MLS degree from an ALA
accredited program or international equivalent, a basic understanding of
U.S. Government organization as well as knowledge of computer applications,
online searching and Internet technologies. Desirable skills include a
degree in or knowledge of one of the following disciplines: geography,
sociology, economics, business administration or law.

SALARY & APPLICATION INFORMATION: Appointment will be made at the instructor
or assistant library professor level.  The minimum salary is $27,000.  A
generous benefits package includes TIAA/CREF (or alternative plan) and 22
days of annual leave.  Review of applications will begin immediately with
preference given to those received before October 31.  The University of
Vermont has 9,000 students enrolled in nine schools and colleges at the
undergraduate and graduate levels.  The combined libraries' budget is $7.8
million.  Burlington is a metropolitan area of 131,000 with an increasingly

Electronic Resources Librarian

<TD>Salaried Full-Time Position 35 hours per week, including one evening
a week and up to two weekend days per month.
<P>The Electronic Resources Librarian participates in the selection of
electronic resources and identifies reference resources on the Internet,
learns to use the electronic resources, develops training materials and
search aids, and manages and participates in training staff and the public
to use them; and provides reference and information services to the public.</P>

<P>This position requires an individual with knowledge of Windows; electronic
resource searching skills; clear language skills; and the ability to formulate
and carry out successful reference interviews and search strategies.</P>

<P>This position requires an MLS from an ALA accredited institution with
a specialization in electronic resources and/or reference and information
services and sources. Prior reference service and experience with Windows,
the Internet, web page design, HTML, on-line and CD-ROM services and word
processing are required.</P>

<P>$31,900 and up, depending on experience.</P>

This position is responsible for system and data
administration for two SQL databases maintained
by the Corporate Library Group.  Additional
responsibilities include administration of the
web front end to one database, report writing,
server administration, database programming,
and operational support.  As a member of our
Desktop Services team, you will be closely
involved in the ongoing development of a highly
visible, leading edge, web-based electronic library.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

-Database experience; Microsoft SQL Server and
 Sybase System 11 preferred

-Knowledge of Windows NT workstation & server
 environments

-Masters in Library/Information Science or
 Computer Science or equivalent experience

-Excellent oral and written communications skills

-Ability to work independently as well as part of
