THOMAS P. O=92NEILL, JR. LIBRARY
The Boston College Libraries seek an experienced, dynamic,=20
innovative leader to guide the Cataloging Department of the=20
O=92Neill Library. Currently, the Department is comprised of=20
seven professionals and ten support staff. The Department=20
processes approximately 60,000 items per year, including=20
monographs, serials, non-print, computer files, and online=20
resources utilizing OCLC and the Ameritech (NOTIS) Library=20
Services LMS product. In 1994, the Cataloging Department=20
began a series of innovations, including outsourcing and=20
the addition of temporary staff which have approximately=20
doubled previous production levels. These activities are=20
expected to continue, laying the foundation for the=20
Libraries=92 application for membership in the Association of=20
Research Libraries. Major goals of the Cataloging=20
Department in the coming year include continued=20
productivity enhancements, more use of automated resources,=20
database clean-up, and priorities analysis. The Head of=20
Cataloging manages the work of the senior department staff;=20
coordinates project and departmental planning; works=20
closely with other collections staff in the Information=20
Resource Development unit; contributes to library-wide=20
planning; participates in campus-wide digital projects; and=20
will assist in the migration to a new automated system.
Qualifications:=09 ALA accredited MLS, minimum of five years=20
relevant professional academic library experience. =20
Additional advanced degree or graduate studies desirable. =20
Increasingly responsible managerial experience in technical=20
services and networked cataloging systems and resources. =20
Excellent communication skills and commitment to=20
strengthening public services and improving cataloging=20
productivity.
Based upon experience, education, and skills, the=20
anticipated hiring range is $45,450 to $56,800.

Librarian I - Reference/Instruction Librarian
Tarleton State University seeks a self-motivated and service oriented
librarian. Reporting to the Division Head for Public Services, this
individual will provide a full range of reference services in a dynamic,
service-oriented university library.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES. Reference desk service (some nights and
weekends); support/assist user access to electronic, Internet, print
resources; bibliographic instruction.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS. ALA accredited MLS; knowledge of reference
sources,
electronic information systems, and methods of scholarly research in
academic libraries. Must work and communicate effectively with library
staff and university community. Commitment to service, professional
growth
and development.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS. Academic library experience; teaching
experience;
knowledge of DRA integrated library system.
SETTING. Tarleton State University Library supports undergraduate and
graduate programs on a campus of 6,500 students. The library is

SALARY AND BENEFITS. $22,000 for 12 months; choice of medical and

UNCLASSIFIED STAFF POSITION
POSITION: Media Librarian
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: 1 December 1997
SALARY: $25,000 - $30,000 Annual salary rate depending on experience
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions: Responsible for shaping the future of the
Library's
media services. The position is responsible for all activities relating to
the operations of the Audio-Visual (AV) Unit, including supervision of a
library assistant and .5 FTE student assistant. Assists students and
faculty in the use of media materials. Future developmental areas may
include, responsibility for digital information programs, and educational
technology applications, including multimedia programs/presentations,
digital collections and finding aids, authoring software, and maintenance
of the Library's Web page. Serves as a member of the Library team,
developing expertise relating to the use and development of multimedia
applications and systems.
Other functions: Participates in Reference Desk coverage including
evening and weekend rotation; prepares policies, procedures, and reports;
and conducts library instruction sessions. Performs other library related
duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Academic: M.L.S. or its equivalent from an ALA accredited
program.
Experience: Preferred: one to two years work in an academic library
setting including experience with AV materials and knowledge of trends in
nonprint media. Entry-level candidates with a background in media will be
considered. Also preferred: expertise with NOTIS, the use of Internet/WWW,
and presentation and authoring programs.
SPECIAL SKILLS OR REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work effectively in a team
setting. Essential to be a quick study with strong oral and written
communication skills. Must be committed to public service and be able to
interact tactfully with students, faculty, and members of the community.
