POSITION ANNOUCEMENT
Director, Libraries Technology
University of Louisville Libraries
The University Libraries' are seeking an
innovative, energetic and service oriented
person to supervise and manage the libraries'
information technology efforts in support of
the Libraries' mission and service. The
Director will work with the seven UofL
libraries and the University's Office of
Information Technology to develop and
implement the best strategies for the
libraries' information infrastructure and
emerging technologies. Under the leadership
of a new University Librarian, the Libraries
are pursuing a learner-centered
reorganization. The Libraries use the NOTIS
system and are in the process of choosing a
client-server system. The University of
Louisville is Kentucky's metropolitan
university serving the largest urban area of
the state.
The Director will:
Manage the technology infrastructure of the
Libraries including
a client-server integrated library
system
LAN-based services
UNIX and client-server platforms
Web-based services
Mainframe services
PC-based services
Networked services
Provide leadership and project coordination
for implementing services to expand and
enhance academic and learner centered
information services for the University.
Prepare budget/grant proposals, manage the
technology budget and coordinate the
purchase, installation and maintenance of
computing and networking for the Libraries.
Supervise one faculty member and three
technical staff.
Serve as liaison to various local, state and
regional efforts to coordinate library
technology efforts.
Serve as a key Libraries' partner with the
University-wide Office of Information
Technology.
Meet requirements of a faculty position
requiring professional development and
service in addition to excellent job
performance.
Coordinate and provide technology training
for Libraries' personnel.
Minimum qualifications:
Masters degree in Library Science or
Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or
a graduate degree
in a related area and at least three
years relevant experience in an academic
or research library or a comparable
information technology environment. An
equivalent combination of education,
training and/or experience may be
substituted.
Experience managing complex projects.
Expertise with various computer and
networked environments; broad and
demonstrable knowledge of trends and
developments in information technology
and academic information services.
Successful experience in management and
supervision of information technology
services and facilities.
Excellent interpersonal, written and
oral communication skills.
Desired qualifications
Additional graduate degree in a related
discipline.
Experience in grant writing, license
negotiation, development and budget
planning activities.
Experience working in a team-based
environment.
Demonstrated experience in supervision
of staff and training.
Minimum Salary $45,000, non-tenure track

IMPLEMENTATION CONSULTANT
Innovative Interfaces, Inc., is currently seeking an enthusiastic individual
who enjoys working in a fast-paced, team oriented environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Consult with users in profiling data load, indexing
and display decisions. Serve as the initial and primary contact for all
assigned new sites, coordinates with Innovative interdepartmental staff on a
variety of installation issues. Responsible for all phases of data base load,
including the initial software load, bibliographic, item, authority and patron
records, and other data loads as required by the site. Prepare tables and
files to insure conformity with customer profiles and contract specifications.
Manage the implementation schedule by coordinating with customer, third party
vendors and Innovative support personnel. Duties also include troubleshooting
and correcting software and data load problems, using UNIX job control
language and Innovative utility programs as well as other tools. Position is
based in our Emeryville office.
REQUIREMENTS: MLS or equivalent, sound understanding of library practices and
procedures. Knowledge of MARC format and cataloging, minimum one year of
professional experience. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the
following: library technical services, data or technical processing, or
reference in public, academic or special libraries. Excellent communication
and interpersonal skills, strong commitment to service. Demonstrated ability
in conflict resolution.
