Subject: Library Director Selection Criteria
Listers,
We are going to be selecting a new director for our library. We are a
small, `New American College'; we were a small liberal arts college, with a
number of applied programs, (e.g., business, computer science,
communications, along with applied grad. progs.)
I am requesting information regarding what listers see as technological
knowledge that a library director should possess in order to lead the
development of a library throughout the next decade. I am less concerned
with information that requires particulars concerning our College, than I am
with general information that relates to what a library director should
know, technologically, in order to direct the tech. aspect of library
development.
Here are some questions: Where do you see college libraries going in the
next decade? Two decades?
What sorts of transitions should libraries currently be involved with in
terms of information technology?
How will libraries which have been largely `trailing edge' operations,
become current or even leading edge operations?
If listers think of other questions that should be asked, that have been
omitted above, please send them along.
Thank you.
