Ottenheimer Library, University of Arkansas at Little Rock
Department Head, INTERLIBRARY LOAN/ REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
The Ottenheimer Library at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock
has an immediate opening for a librarian with responsibilities as a
department head for Interlibrary Loan and as a reference librarian.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Assistant Director for Instructional
and Public Services, this person will supervise a department that
conducts all interlibrary loan transactions for the library, and will
provide general reference service on rotation at the reference desk.
Flexible schedule includes work one night per week and some weekends.
Department operations include handling personnel matters, improving
procedures for more effective service, and reviewing document delivery
services. Reference duties include helping to select reference titles,
explaining CD-ROM services to students, interpreting the DRA system to
patrons, and providing bibliographic instruction. Knowledge of the
Internet and other online systems necessary. Position requires working
closely with the classroom faculty and participating on faculty
committees and in professional organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution with minimum 3
years professional experience required; background in public services
work, especially reference preferred. ILL experience helpful; excellent
interpersonal/communication skills necessary.
COMPENSATION: Minimum salary $32,500 for 12-month faculty tenure-track
position at rank of Assistant Professor; 22 days of paid vacation plus
holidays; TIAA/CREF; dental and health insurance, disability and life
insurance also available.

**DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION**
MLS or advanced degree in social science discipline.
**MINIMUM NUMBER OF YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE**
At least 7 years of experience in a data library and archival
setting, or in a special library setting including familiarity with
social science data, 3 of which must involve supervisory
experience. Systems administration skills (Windows NT, Networking,
Web-based applications) desirable.
**PRINCIPAL DUTIES**
Responsible for day-to-day operations and management of an
academic social science numeric data library and archive (a
special library on the U.W. Madison campus). Manages and
works with professional library staff (currently 1.2 FTEs),
and supervise student hourly employees (currently 1 FTE).
Responsible for the management and administration of library
budget, and works with the Faculty Director and library staff
to allocate funds and establish spending priorities. Responsible
for administration and management of the library's computer
systems, which include Windows NT, Internet, and Web-based
applications, and the library's Microsoft Access database system.
Provides reference services to library users. Outreach to other
campus librarians, University faculty, and external users to
facilitate access to library data. Will manage the library's large
and growing on-line data archive, and work with U.W. faculty to
facilitate the archiving of original datasets at the library.
Depending on qualifications, may assume duties of the Official
Representative of the campus' membership to the Inter-university
Consortium for Political and Social Research.

SYSTEMS AND TECHNICAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN
Central Oregon Community College and University Center in Bend, Oregon
ASSIGNMENT:
Coordinate the operation of all library systems including all modules
of the Innovative system. Provide leadership in designing efficient
work flow and integrating the latest technologies for technical
services and public workstations. Is directly responsible for
cataloging and database maintenance. Work closely with the Computer
Services Department to identify and solve network and technical
problems in all library systems. Serve as part of the reference team
staffing reference services (may include evenings and weekends). May
also participate in some teaching and bibliographic instruction.
Qualifications:
A Master's degree in library or information science (MLS) from an ALA
accredited program. One year of academic library experience. This
requirement can be met with a combination of documented internships,
preprofessional, and professional experience. Experience with an
integrated library system. Knowledge of networked systems, windows
environments, the Internet and emerging technologies. Knowledge of
current cataloging standards and practices including AACR2, LC subject
headings, MARC, and OCLC. Reference service experience. Prefer
experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc. library systems and LAN
applications.
A new 70,000 square foot library is currently under construction and
will be occupied January 1998. It will include a networked classroom
and computer lab. The library is fully automated with Innovative
Interface Inc.'s system. All public workstations are Pentium machines
fully connected to the Internet. The library uses IAC's Expanded
Academic Index, OCLC, Docline, and Ariel systems. It is the only
college library in a district of 10,000 square miles. It serves the
community, the college, and the University Center which is sited on the
campus and delivers bachelor and master's degrees from other Oregon
colleges and universities.
SALARY: $34,386 - $40,936 per year, plus fringe benefits. DEADLINE:
