The Digital Library has also been discussed as a library for the future.
Based on the experience of and the products from the digital library
projects of the past few years, we can now discuss not only research and
development for future libraries but also discuss experiments with and
practice issues for the digital library.
The symposium will include presentations by invited guests and contributed
papers. English is the Symposium language.

Location - Tsukuba Science City
The Tsukuba Science City is located 60 km north-east of Tokyo. The Tsukuba
Center is located at the center of the Tsukuba Science City. The central
bus terminal, CREO (a shopping mall), Tsukuba Daiichi hotel, Tsukuba central
post office and other facilities are located at the Tsukuba Center. The
symposium site, Tsukuba Capio, is in a walking distance from the Tsukuba
Center. The University of Library and Information Science (ULIS) is a national
university of Japan, located at the center of the Tsukuba Science City.

Those who wishes to register and make hotel reservation are requested to

Registration
There are two registration categories, Full Registration and One Day
Registration.
* Full Registration includes all sessions, a copy of the symposium
proceedings and banquet.
* One Day Registration includes all sessions on one day during the
symposium and a copy of the symposium proceedings.
Full Registration (Pre-registration) should be done no later than Nov. 7
(Fri), 1997. Full Registration will be done under First Come First Served
policy.
One Day Registration is made only on-site, and is accepted only if
Pre-registration is not full.
Fees:
* Full Registration: 13,000 yen
* One Day Registration: 3,000 yen/day, 1,000 yen/day (Full-time Student)
Payment:
* Payment must be made in Japanese yen.
* Payment for Full Registration from outside Japan should be made by
Credit Card. Visa and Master Card can be accepted.
* Payment for Full Registration from inside Japan can be made by Credit
Card, Bank Transfer, or Registered Mail. (See Call for Participation in
Japanese for detail for payment by Bank Transfer and Registered Mail.)

No email registration is accepted.
* Hotel Reservation
A block of rooms at Tsukuba Daiichi Hotel is reserved from 17 November, 1997
through 22 November, 1997 for symposium participants. However, please note
that the number of rooms is limited and therefore they are served on First
Come First Served basis. Participants wishing to make reservations for hotel
accomodation are requested to complete the "Hotel Reservation Form",
indicating all necessary items and send it to the Registration Agency, Tokyo
Travel Service Co., Ltd. not later than 17 October, 1997. A room deposit of
10,000 yen for a Single Room and 19,000 yen for a Twin Room will be required
to secure your reservation. No reservation is made with the absence of the
hotel deposit.

* Room Charge for Twin Room per Night: 19,000 yen
* Room Charge for Single Room per Night: 10,500 yen
1. Above Rates include a 10 % of service charge and a 5% of consumption
tax.
2. If total amount of the hotel bill per day per person exceeds more than
15,000 yen, another 3% of local tax will be added.
3. No meals are included.
Confirmation and Receipt
Upon receiving the "ISDL'97 Registration/Hotel Reservation Form" and
confirming your remittance of appropriate fee, the Registration Agency will
send you a confirmation/receipt slip with your registration number on it.
Please make sure that you bring this slip with you at the time of
registration.
Hotel Deposit and Refund Policy
In case of cancellation of hotel reservation and application for refund,
written notice must be sent to the Registration Agency. Your deposit will be
refunded after deducting respective cancellation charge as follows,
cancellation notification received: cancellation charge
9 days or more prior to the date of arrival:1,000 yen
8 to 2 days prior to the date of arrival: 3,000 yen
Fewer than 2 days prior or no notice given: 100% of your deposit
