SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for managing the integration
of external content on our web-based electronic library.
Responsibilities include working with vendors, managing
feed handling and filtering, indexing, automating processes,
and performing content administration. Additional
responsibilities include managing a Verity (search &
profiling) knowledge base, web reporting, and providing
hotline support for the web site. As a member of our
Desktop Services team you will be closely involved in the
ongoing development of a highly visible, leading edge
web-based electronic library.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
-Experience in managing electronic content feeds
-Knowledge and experience in HTML authoring
-Experience in indexing and working with search query
languages
-Database knowledge
-Masters in Library or Computer Science or equivalent
experience
-Experience with programming and/or scripting languages
-Communications and teamwork skills
-IS operations experience
Preferred:
-Knowledge of Windows-NT workstation & server environments

DUTIES: The incumbent serves as a Computer Specialist
with responsibility
for developing and designing the NPS Web sites,
assuring that various
components of NPS's information management system
are integrated into the
site; develops web policies; provides direction and
guidance to the ARS
field structure concerning the web site; and serves as
liaison with the ARS
Webmaster and other Web/Pagemasters outside of
ARS. Specific duties
include: leadership of electronic information management
initiative in the
area of Web authoring, SGML/HTML encoding and
archiving of digital data;
assists in the development of NPS' overall database
administration and
serves as a systems manager for selected UNIX and
Windows NT Systems;
responsible for long-term strategic planning, technical
oversight,
training, and evaluation of programs as they relate to the
publication,
archiving, and access to electronic documents and
databases; prepares
proposal for projects, contracts, and cooperative
agreements to implement
improvements in electronic information management;
represents the
organization at meetings with officials of USDA agencies,
and serves on
interagency teams and committees.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess at least
one year of specialized
experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Specialized experience
is experience that is typically in or related to the work of
the position
to be filled and has equipped the applicant with the
following knowledge,
skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the
position:
1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of
information management.
2. Knowledge of ADP systems, management
information systems, and
computer applications, principles and techniques.
