ASSISTANT PROFESSOR/ASSISTANT DEPARTMENT HEAD, ACCESS SERVICES DEPARTMENT,
TENURE TRACK.  Oklahoma State University is a land grant university with an
enrollment of 26,000 students on four campuses offering 44 doctoral degree
programs.  The Library, with holdings of more than 2.6 million volumes and
documents, is a member of the Association of Research Libraries.  The Library
operates in a highly automated environment including: an online catalog
(NOTIS); online access to ISI's Current Contents and several FirstSearch
databases; online access to UMI's Proquest Direct (Periodical Abstracts
Research  II, ABI/Inform, full-text New York Times, Newspaper Abstracts, and
Digital Dissertations Abstracts); Internet access to Compendex Web and El
Village, J-Stor, Project Muse, selected FirstSearch databases and the
Encyclopedia Americana; access to numerous locally networked cd-rom databases
and other remote databases.  Thirty public Internet workstations are available.
Access Services includes Circulation, Interlibrary Services, Microform/Media,
Reserve, Security, and Stack Maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Work closely with the department head, in the management,
long range planning, and decision making for all aspects of the department;
direct responsibility for the Interlibrary Services operation, supervising six
support staff and student assistants; make recommendations on access and
document delivery goals; develop goals and priorities for the Interlibrary
Services unit; serve on the Collection Development Committee; maintain current
knowledge of copyright issues and appropriate trends in technology;
participate in other library and department activities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA-MLS.  Four years post-MLS experience in a
large academic library.  Must demonstrate the following: a record of providing
excellent service; the ability to interact with the public in a friendly
manner; excellent communication, organization, and supervisory skills; the
ability to motivate subordinates to achieve organizational goals; the ability
to  quickly settle disciplinary problems.  Experience with interlibrary loan
through personal or professional research efforts.  Desired: Experience with
an automated circulation or interlibrary loan system; active participation in
professional organizations.

SALARY: $32,000 for 12 months.  Salary and academic rank dependent upon
qualifications and prior experience.

POSITION VACANCY: Assistant Dean for Access and Bibliographic Services

Position: Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo invites applications and nominations
for the newly created position of Assistant Dean for Access and
Bibliographic Services. The Division consists of Acquisitions, Cataloging,
Circulation, Current Periodicals, Document Delivery, and Reserves.
Specific responsibilities include coordination of all division operations,
including personnel management, budgeting, planning, and creating and
implementing policies and procedures. Reports directly to the Dean of
Library Services, and is a member of the six person Management Team.

Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS degree, and five years of progressive
professional experience directly related to the responsibilities of this
position, and supervisory/managerial experience. Knowledge of the major
issues in the application of technology to all areas of the division.
Knowledge and experience with online public access catalogs and other
automated systems, including OCLC and Innopac. Preferred: experience with
vendor outsourcing.

Salary: Minimum $50,000. Appointment at the Associate Librarian rank (12
month, tenure-track position). Librarians are members of the general
faculty, and are expected to meet requirements for tenure and promotion.
Benefits include 24 days annual vacation, 12 legal holidays, sick leave,
and competitive retirement and health plans.
