Learning Resources Center
The University of Virginia
Health Sciences Library is seeking an Assistant
Director for the Learning Resources Center;
responsible for the management of the Learning
Resources Center (LRC) which includes the
Microcomputer Lab. Supervises LRC staff; oversees
user support services; develops and teaches
educational programs; resolves and troubleshoots
software and hardware problems. Works collaboratively
with faculty and students to incorporate CAI
activities into the curriculum. Serves as a key point
person and resource for innovative use of educational
technology. Serves as an adjunct member of the
Library's system group.
Required Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge in
the application of computerized systems in health
sciences environment. Advanced knowledge of computers
and the ability to troubleshoot and incorporate new
systems when applicable. Two years work experience in
a library environment, specifically using computerized
technologies for user services and teaching
activities. Experience developing and implementing
educational programs. Familiarity with issues, trends
and technologies relevant to the health sciences
environment, particularly those that affect health
sciences libraries. MLS degree (must be ALA
accredited). Masters in relevant subject area such as
instructional design or computer systems will be
considered.
Preferred Knowledge: Knowledge of instructional
design principles highly desirable. Advanced
experience using computerized software and hardware.
Experience supervising and managing a service unit.
Membership in the Medical Library Association Academy
of Health Information Professionals preferred.
Salary: $35,000/yr. minimum; excellent benefits and
relocation support. Position will remain open until a

The Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) seeks an energetic and
creative administrator to fill the position of Hospital Library Services
Program Manager.
Overview of METRO
-------------------
Located in New York City, METRO is a nonprofit membership organization
committed to serving the needs of its 260 member libraries in the five
boroughs and Westchester County. METRO is part of New York State's
three "R"-reference, research, and resource-cooperative library system.
While each member library has its own mission and purpose, METRO exists,
in part, to help these diverse institutions work together in order to
provide the most effective services for their constituencies and the
general public. METRO is governed by a Board of Trustees and supports a
wide range of Advisory and Coordinating Councils that provide additional
advice and guidance to METRO's Director and Program Coordinators.
METRO's Board recently completed a strategic planning process that
has outlined an aggressive program to position the organization for a
leadership role in the library community. METRO's current programs
include Information Systems and Services, Continuing Education,
Interlibrary Loan and Referral, Hospital Library Services, Archives and
Historical Records, and Publications. METRO maintains a site on the
World Wide Web (http://metro.org) and serves as a local access provider
for members, and provides Internet training, workshops, and information.
Position Description
----------------------
The position of Hospital Library Services Program Manager reports to the
Director of Programs and Services. The Manager will have primary
responsibility for developing, planning, and implementing all programs
and services designed to support the 75 hospital libraries in METRO's
membership. Such initiatives may include continuing education, advocacy,
collection development, and technical and managerial consulting. He/she
will also have the lead responsibility for maintaining communications
with and coordinating the activities of Medical Library Services Program
Advisory Council. This group is comprised of volunteers who are top
professionals from New York's medical library community. The Manager
will assume and perform his/her responsibilities in a professional manner
and with recognition of the need to integrate, as appropriate, his/her
work with METRO's other programs, activities and initiatives.
Qualifications
----------------
The background and experience required for the position includes a
masters degree (MLS preferred) and a minimum of 3-5 years of
administrative or project experience, with preference given to experience
in a health sciences information environment. Candidates must possess
strong inter-personal, organizational, and communication skills including
solid writing and the ability to work as a part of a team. The position
requires proficiency with computers including word-processing, office
productivity software, and use of the Internet.
Compensation
--------------
The salary range encompasses the upper-$40s and includes a generous
benefits package.
