CONTINUING EDUCATION SEMINAR
The University of Texas at Austin
Graduate School of Library and Information Science
is hosting the following seminar on Internet Publishing, at the
Thompson Conference Center at The University of Texas at Austin. The
speaker for this seminar is Kevin Marsh, the executive director of
Information Access Institute (http://Information.org), a nonprofit
organization that provides consulting services to help libraries, museums,
and archives load information collections onto the Internet. He is an
author, speaker, and consultant in the field of Internet access to and
from libraries. Mr. Marsh holds a BA in government and a Master's in
library and information science from UT-Austin.
PUTTING INFORMATION COLLECTIONS ON THE INTERNET
(Advanced--Internet Publishing)
October 17, 1997 Cost: $65.00 ($10 late fee if not postmarked by Oct.
2, 1997).
Purpose:
This seminar is designed for information professionals working in
archives, museums, libraries, and other knowledge collections who are
interested in providing access to their collections on the internet.
Program:
This seminar (not hands-on) will address the justification, creation,
organization, and administration of an Internet server for an information
collection. Specific topics will include: Why serve collections on the
Internet, What kinds of information to serve, Internet server protocols
(FTP, Web, and Z39.50), Software and hardware components of a basic
Internet site, Standards for networked database access, Search engines
and field naming, File formats for various types of information, Where to
obtain software and additional information.
