Greetings
I previously requested information concerning automation systems for a
medium sized pulic library.
My project is almost at an end, so here is the hit I promised. I got more
requests to share information than information.
I learned:
* DRA is Library and Librarian friendly. It delivers what it claims on
time. It has good customer service
* Horizon seems like Notis
* Ameritech was very helpful. They sent me a great deal of information.
* Sirsi has an easy to use OPAC (if you read the on screen directions).
They have no 800# and limited hours of customer service.
Overall * Differences among Library Automation systems is not very
dramatic.
* Must have modules that interact.
Group Decision for our imaginary automation project -- DRA Taos and the
DRA Kids catalog (uses the same database as the regular OPAC, Librarian
sets search parameters behind the icons.) and DRA WEB2.
We would go with DRA because they are on the cutting edge, have a good
reputation , provide good customer service, and have integrated modules.
Now, in my real job I have to start investigating Automation systems for a
private elementary school library with a 6000 volume collection. I've
heard a lot of good things about Winnebago. Any input (pros and cons of
the various systems, including retrospective conversion) would be
