                     Senior Catalog Librarian

The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries seek a leader for the Catalog
Department team to catalog materials received by the university and community
college libraries in Northern Nevada and to provide training and guidance for
original catalogers.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include original and complex copy
cataloging of print and electronic resources, with emphasis on serials;
establishing local cataloging standards and procedures for print and electronic
resources; serving as trainer and resource person for serials copy cataloger and
original catalogers; assisting with quality control and problem solving in
Catalog
Department; participating in collection development program. Reports to Director
of Technical Services.

Qualifications:  ALA accredited M.L.S.  Two years professional cataloging
experience, with experience in cataloging serials. Thorough knowledge of
AACR2r, USMARC formats, LCSH, LC classification system, and standard
authority control procedures. Experience with a bibliographic utility and local
library system, preferably Innovative Interfaces. Strong analytical and
communication skills. Evidence of initiative, flexibility, attention to
productivity,
and ability to work creatively in an academic environment. Knowledge of current
trends in cataloging and evidence of contribution to the library profession.

Salary: 12 month tenure track faculty position at rank of Assistant Professor;
minimum $37,500.

Fringes: TIAA/CREF and other retirement options; 24 working days vacation per
year; generous sick leave. No state income tax.

The Environment:  The University of Nevada, Reno is a dynamic land-grant
institution with 12,000 students enrolled in 69 baccalaureate, 64 master, and 36
doctoral degree programs. Reno is a metropolitan area of 250,000, located only

The following has been posted to several lists.  Please excuse

Wittenberg University seeks applicants for two positions of Reference
Librarian in the University Library.  These are full-time, tenure
track, faculty appointments.  Responsibilities include reference desk
service; individual and group bibliographic instruction regarding
print and electronic resources; liaison assignment to specific academic
departments; participation in budget preparation, collection develop-
ment, and management of electronic information resources; and training
and supervision of student staff.  Some evening and weekend hours
required.

MLS from an ALA-accredited program required, along with excellent
communication skills, experience or interest in teaching, familiarity
with information technology, and the ability to work collaboratively
and meet tenure requirements.  One of the two positions will require
expertise in web-based, network, and desktop applications.  Individuals
with educational backgrounds in varied disciplines are encouraged to
apply.  A background in the natural sciences is preferred for one
position.

Wittenberg is a renowned liberal arts institution with a multiculturally

                      HEAD, LIBRARY SYSTEMS OFFICE


RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages the Libraries' Systems Office, a team of four who
provide the Libraries with desktop systems support, NT and other LAN
services management, and an integrated library system. Performs full range
of supervisory duties and works with staff in setting department goals and
priorities. Is directly responsible for maintaining the Libraries' web
servers and Unix boxes. As a member of the Computing Coordinating Team,
works with the Assistant Director for Technology Planning and Administration
and Information Technology Librarians to establish information technology
policies and priorities for the libraries. Translates these priorities into
functional operations based on efficient use of technology. Serves as a
liaison between the worlds of systems and librarianship for various
workgroups within the libraries and the MIT community. Evaluates and
recommends hardware and software solutions for the libraries and
participates in computer related capital equipment planning and purchasing.
Reports to the Assistant Director for Technology Planning and Administration.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required - Bachelor's degree in computer science, or
master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited
program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Five years
progressively responsible systems experience, some of which is in an
academic library environment.  A clear understanding of the service goals
and mission of an academic library. Experience managing Unix based web
services and writing CGI and other programs; Unix system administration
experience. Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and stay current
with technical developments.  A highly developed service and support ethic,
excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proven organization,
team-building, and supervisory ability.  Ability to excel in a complex and
changing environment.  Desirable - Familiarity with integrated library
systems, especially Pick flavors, and with Windows NT server and workstation.

HIRING SALARY:  $38,000 minimum.  Actual salary will depend on experience.

Position:  Electronic Text Librarian

Available: Review of applications to begin September 8, 1997 until position
filled.

Description: The Electronic Text Librarian will work on coordinating
electronic text projects for the University of Kentucky Libraries.  The
position will be based in the new W. T. Young Library and will work in a
team-based environment with other electronic support librarians (including
another electronic text librarian).

Primary responsibilities:
* Coordination of software and hardware maintenance as it pertains to
Electronic products provided through the E-Text and Imaging program.
* Work with the staff in other units on campus to provide more seamless
access to the e-text and data services that those units provide.  (Data
sets, GIS, etc.)
* Coordinate licensing and access for data sets such as ICPSR.
* Work with the Government Documents Librarian to provide more coordinated,
consistent access to the myriad government publications that are now
available in electronic format, using guidelines recommended by the Federal
Government for Depository Libraries.
* Serve on Social Sciences Team.
* Work with Information Services Staff and the Team Training Team to
coordinate BI, PR, and Library Staff awareness of these digital collections
and services.
* Work with other Information Services staff in helping students develop
research and multimedia projects using these products.
* Work on the Reference Desk.
* Conduct Library Instruction sessions.
* Serve on Library project teams and committees.

Qualifications:  Required: A master's degree in Library Science from an ALA
accredited library school, very high computer skill level, outstanding
verbal and written communication skills.

Desired: Reference experience; experience with Novell servers, the Windows
environment, Multimedia, HTML, and SGML; familiarity with Social Science
data sets and services; familiarity with copyright law and guidelines as
they pertain to multimedia; demonstrated ability to work in a team-based
work environment.

Salary: $27,500 - $30,000
