I never said that I doubted that there were free sources on the net for access
to ERIC data. What I doubt is that CARL will continue to offer free access.
My basis for that assumption is that they make us per contract pay $5,000
annually for the privilege of bringing their ERIC up on our OPAC terminals.
I called 1 800 USE-ERIC and spoke to a very knowlegeable and friendly ERIC
representative who said she thinks free ERIC on CARL "won't last long." I am
a little surprised a CARL rep hasn't spoken up here to clear the confusion. I
will copy my message to CARL along with other messages in this thread.
The free ERIC data that I am aware of on WAIS is limited to ERIC Digest.
Syracuse's SUINFO PRISM ERIC is the CIJE/RIE database and is VERY nice, but
I'm told it only goes back 5 years. I would like to hear if there is a _full_
ERIC database free to all net users that is here to stay.
The purpose of my original message was to warn non-subscribing users of _CARL_
ERIC not to become too dependent on it as it must soon go away.
