POSITION OPENING
Job Title: Webmaster
Grade: 56 ($33,600 - $53,900)
The Harvard Home Page provides access to campus information/resources of
interest to Harvard students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and other around
the globe who are interested in knowing about campus life, events, courses,
services, and research and job opportunities. The development of the
Harvard Home Page is a collaborative effort, overseen by the University
Library and University Information Systems.=20
The Webmaster is responsible for the development and maintenance of the
Harvard HomePage, including the design and organization of networked
information resources located throughout the University. =20
Other responsibilities of the position include:=20
=B7 monitor World Wide Web and Harvard Internet developments =20
=B7 plan and implement enhancements to insure that the Harvard HomePage
remains responsive to the information needs of Harvard students, faculty,
staff, alumni, as well as interested members of the general public.=20
=B7 Provide support for loading and maintaining selected data resources in
web and gopher environments
=B7 Supervise students who do daily data updates =20
=B7 Work with technical staff to administer and maintain the application.=20
=B7 Collaborate with existing and potential data providers on implementation
of and enhancements to procedures to provide access to Harvard information
resources.
Required education, experience, skills: =20
=B7 Bachelor's degree with two years of experience in a computer-oriented
workplace, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. =20
=B7 Experience with the World Wide Web including web design, and the
installation and maintenance of Web servers. =20
=B7 Strong written and oral communication skills. =20
=B7 Ability to achieve results with minimal supervision.=20
=B7 Familiarity with multiple computing environments including Macintosh,
Windows, UNIX. =20
Additional desirable experience and skills include: Supervisory
experience, familiarity with Harvard, negotiation and consensus building
skills, project management experience, experience with publication design
either electronic or paper.
Strong preference for person with relevant Harvard knowledge or experience.
This position is funded through June 1998; and will be continued beyond
that date based on the availability of funding.
