The Artificial Intelligence/Expert Systems Interest Group's program,
entitled "Bringing Order Out of Chaos: The Use of Innovative Technologies
to Organize the World Wide Web", will be given on Sunday, June 29, 1997
from 2:00-4:00 p.m. (in room 102 of the Moscone Convention Center). This
program will explore developments in information retrieval technology that
seek to make finding information on the Internet easier and more
efficient. Presenters will focus on the use of a wide variety of
techniques to address problems that users encounter when using standard
Web search engines. Techniques explored will include the application of
traditional bibliographic control concepts in an automated environment,
the use of machine-generated thesauri, the use of visual data clustering
models, and other innovative approaches. Presenters will include Tamas
Doszkocs (National Library of Medicine), Keith Shafer (Scorpion Project,
OCLC), and Rich Greenfield (tentative - Congressional Research Service).
The Interest Group will hold its annual business meeting after the meeting
in the meeting room.
