The LITA Customized Applications for Library Microcomputers IG would like
to announce its program at the ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco,
Developing CGI Programs for the World-Wide Web
June 30, 1997, 8:30 to 11:00 am, ANA-Metro. I
Many libraries are concerned with increasing the functionality of their
Web pages. Find out how CGI can help you toward that goal, even if you're
not a programmer! Representatives from academic and public institutions
will explain where and how to implement CGI applications to maximize Web
potential, demonstrate some simple (and some not-so-simple) CGI scripts,
and discuss some practical uses of CGI for libraries of all types. An
extended question and answer period will follow the speakers'
presentations.
Speakers:
*Stephen Westman (UTexas-San Antonio) - who will talk about learning
CGI when you don't know and you aren't a programmer par excellence, etc.
*Roy Tennant (UC-Berkeley) - who will talk about some CGI scripts that
he's written, and show how they work, talk about what they can do for
libraries in general, etc.
*Don Napoli (St. Joseph's County PL, Indiana) - will talk about his
library's work with a great Filemaker/CGI ditty. He'll also address how
CGI can be useful for public libraries, costs, benefits, etc.
*Steve Watkins (CSU-Monterey Bay) - will address the uses of CGI for
academic libraries in particular, talking about how CSU-MB bypassed some
paper processes in favor of CGI from the very beginning.
