NOTICE OF VACANCY
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRAINING COORDINATOR
Required Qualifications:
ALA accredited Master's degree in Library or Information Science,
familiarity with NOTIS or other automated library systems, demonstrated
verbal and written communication skills, experience with training
programs.
Desired Qualifications:
Teaching experience; instructional design experience; computer
science training.
Position Summary:
Under general direction of the Director of Information Technology,
plans, organizes, coordinates, and conducts the training of library
staff in the operational use of the NOTIS System and other related
automation systems/services made available by the Library. Also plans,
organizes, creates, and coordinates needed documentation for the
operation of the NOTIS system and other computerized systems and
services in the Libraries. Develops publicity information for making
users aware of the various library systems available. Works closely
with Library faculty and staff who have responsibility for interpreting
the data available through the various computer-based systems.
Salary:
$22,000 and up depending upon qualifications
Status and Benefits:
Exempt Professional Assistant. Appointment on a fiscal year basis
with annual vacation of 15 days during the first year of employment and
22 days thereafter. Flexible benefits programs with open enrollments
annually. Group life, medical, and disability insurance programs are
in effect as are TIAA-CREF retirement and Social Security coverage.
Libraries:
The Purdue University Libraries system is made up of 15 school and
departmental libraries. Holdings total more than 1,800,000 volumes.
Staff totals more than 200 including 55 faculty and professionals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. This position has primary responsibility for developing and
maintaining a training program relevant to the needs of the library
staff for the operational use of various computerized systems
offered by the Purdue Library, the main system being the various
modules of NOTIS integrated library system. Works closely with
other Library faculty and staff in developing these programs.
This would include but not necessary be limited to the following
kinds of work:
a. Conduct orientation programs of new library staff and other
library users as needed.
b. Hold training programs for new library staff as well as
refresher courses and updates for on-going staff.
c. Assist in the development of training programs that could
be offered and/or conducted by Library faculty members or
other professional staff.
d. Develop point-of-use materials.
e. Develop handouts, guides, and other appropriate materials.
2. Work with the Information Technology Department's Microcomputer
Specialist to develop staff training programs for microcomputer
systems. This may include development of basic training in
specific microcomputer software and the creation of brief "crib
sheets" and other helps for various software packages related to
library applications.
3. Develop internal publicity type information concerning the
availability of various automated library systems.
4. Develop a regular information gathering program to survey the needs
of users and areas needing more training and education, and to
identify system enhancements.
5. Become familiar with other training programs being offered at other
libraries.
6. Provide regular reports to the Library staff concerning training
efforts in the Purdue Libraries.
7. Assist the Director of Information Technology as needed.
8. Continue own professional development.
