We are using the Nikon Coolscan 1000; it is a slide scanner that
comes with the software needed to run it. It does require alot of
memory and I think at least a 486 processor. It does a nice job but
each slide takes up a large amount of disk space -- something
like 7 meg each. For this reason, we have decided to network the
computer to avoid trying to put slides through a compression program
to be able to fit them on a disk.
We are still learning how to best take advantage of all of its
capabilities but it is basically easy to use from the start. We
aren't using ours to place items into a database though so can't help
you with that.
