Position Title: Computer Graphics Specialist (S-4; 13049)
Supervisor: Head, Library Medical Informatics Group;
Salary: $40,000 and up comensurate with experience.
Description The computer graphics specialist is a member of
the team responsible for the Ehrman Medical Librarys
information systems. The incumbent will participate in all
aspects of Library systems support, including hardware and
software design, installation and maintenance
troubleshooting, enduser support, security, systems
planning supervision of technical assistants, and special
projects. The incumbent will also work on the creation of
cross platform applications, including front-ends to library
systems and new library applications on a project basis.
The positions immediate responsibility will be conversion
of existing CAI programs into HTML. The incumbent will also
work on development of new library CGI programs.
The incumbent will work closely with the Academic Computing
department and with Medical Center and University systems
personnel, as well as other Library and Medical Center
faculty and staff.
Qualifications Bachelors degree, preferable in computer
science or electrical engineering. Demonstrated
proficiency in Java, Java script, and PERL CGI programming;
thorough knowledge of HTML and technical aspects of the
World Wide Web. Familiarity with UNIX, MAC, and DOS OSs.
Strong communications and organizational skills; ability to
work both independently and in a team to organize and
complete projects in a timely manner; must be innovative and
imaginative and willing to undertake a wide range of
technical responsibilities.
Highly desirable: C and /or C++ programming, background in
Hypercard and Supercard; knowledge of TCP/IP and ethernet
technologies; familiarity with medical terminology and
academic medicine.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN. The University of Texas-Pan American
Responsibilities: Oversees and manages the library DEC Alpha and LAN
operations. Plans and oversees installation of the DEC Alpha upgrade.
Provides training for library staff for the DEC Alpha upgrades and DRA
functions as needed. Participates in general library work responsibilities
as needed and appropriate for the optimum functioning of the Library.
Requirements: MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution, training in
UNIX, two or more years of recent experience in computer operations
including CD-ROM LAN systems at an automated library.
Preferred: Knowledge of OCLC and DRA, experience in an automated academic
library, staff computer use training experience, supervisory experience,
undergraduate and/or additional master's degree in computer science-related
field.
Position: Permanent non-tenured administrative staff position. Available
September 1, 1997, subject to availability of funds. Salary is $35,000 per
annum. Deadline for applications is July 15, 1997.
