----------------------------Original message----------------------------
     PACS-L list members:
In conjunction with the 1997 elections, LITA will be holding an
Electronic Candidates Forum on the LITA-L list. This forum is intended
to provide LITA members with an opportunity to ask candidates
questions about substantive issues which interest them, and to
encourage discussion among the candidates and LITA members. We're
posting this notice to the PACS-L list to invite librarians to lurk on
what organizers expect to be a lively discussion, and to remind LITA
members that the LITA-L list is there for your use.

To participate in the Forum, you need only remain subscribed to the
LITA-L list. To join LITA-L, send an email message in this format:
        to: listproc@ala.org
leave the subject line blank, and in the body of the message, type:
        subscribe LITA-L Your Name
where 'Your Name' is your first and last name. (Your email address is
captured automatically from the message envelope.)

The forum will begin Monday, May 5, as candidates post answers to an
initial set of questions compiled by the LITA Nominating Committee.
Discussion among candidates and list members will ensue for the
following week, and final statements from the candidates will be
posted by Friday, May 16, 1997. Following the forum, all messages
related to this topic will be archived on the LITA website until
Friday, June 5 (when completed election ballots are due at ALA).

To view this year's slate of candidates, including links to their
biographical statements, visit the forum web page at:

       http://www.lita.org/ecforum/

A link from this page allows you to submit a potential question to the
Nominating Committee. Please submit your question by April 15, 1997.
LITA members may also choose to direct their questions to the LITA-L
     list during the forum.

If you have any questions about the format of the Forum, please
contact Nancy Roderer, LITA Nominating Committee chair, at:
       nancy.roderer@yale.edu
Comments about the forum webpages should be sent to Kate Wakefield,
     LITA Board member: wake@wln.com

We look forward to your participation in this first-ever LITA
Electronic Candidates Forum. Comments about the forum will be gathered
at its close, to determine whether to make this an annual event. KW
