Subject: Foreign Language searching for internet
We are an academic campus with a large percentage of Japanese
students. We would like to provide Japanese language Internet
searching and e-mail.
Is anyone using a particular software product they find successful?
We are currently using the Netscape browser, Pegasus e-mail in a
Windows for Workgroups environment. The machines are Pentium 133's.

Subject: CARL Systems--How have your experiences with them been?
As an ongoing part of my Library Automation class at Drexel University, I
am endeavoring to find as much information about the CARL automated systems as
I can. CARL itself has been of remarkably little help to me in this, having
refused to give me any information whatsoever. What I am hoping is that some
of the wonderful people on this list might be willing to share their
experiences with CARL (particularly the "Everybody's Catalog" OPAC) with me. I
can't promise much in return beyond my eternal gratitude, but if anyone has

Subject: Backing up
We have a number of network workstations in one of the public
areas of the library. Most of the time, they're working fine,
but every once in a while we either get a virus problem or some
student either motivated by mischievous impulses or a spirit of
scientific inquiry (ha!) deletes some essential files.
I've been backing up the public area computers using a HP Colorado
400MB (uncompressed) capacity tape backup drive. I was surprised
at how slow the process of backing up and restoring was, and I'm
now thinking about other options.
Can folks on the list share what they've found works well for
backing up?
