Library Automated and Networked Services Manager (Information
Systems Analyst II), Arlington County (VA) Public Libraries.
ISO team player to be responsible for management of the Library
Automated and Networked Services Unit. Specific duties include:
planning, managing and integrating the infrastructure that supports
electronic library information service to the public across all
library systems and subsystems - CD ROM, LAN and integrated
information system with WWW access (1997 implementation); managing
vendor (turn key) information system, day to day information
systems operation of 10 sites including a HELP Desk; database and
system security, management of the Administrative LAN; coordinating
work of staff in Automation Unit; Homepage, Internet and WWW
technical support, planning, developing and designing future
functions and enhancements, staff training; participating in
interdepartmental and departmental teams supporting electronic
information delivery and the infrastructure. Employee will be
required to travel to Library Branches to troubleshoot or assist
staff when need arises.
Minimum requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or
university with a Bachelor's degree in computer science,
information system management or a related field plus two years
experience in network and systems analysis as well as software
applications and at least one year in systems management and
planning.
Starting salary $40,924-$49,562 (grade C10) based on experience.

Announcement of Staff Vacancy
POSITION: Multimedia Support/Reference Librarian
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: September 1, 1997
SALARY: $25,000 - $30,000 Annual salary rate depending on experience
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions: Responsible for all activities relating to the
operations of the Audio-Visual (AV) Unit, including supervising a library
assistant, and for a campus leadership position to develop, coordinate, and
support creative uses of educational technologies within the Library and to
work with the faculty on campus applications. Provides direct support to
faculty and students in multimedia and WWW applications; selects and
installs multimedia resources; shares reference desk responsibilities on a
regular schedule including one evening per week and weekend hours on
rotation; prepares policies, procedures, and statistical reports for the AV
Unit; and conducts library instruction for classes.
Serve as a member of the library team, developing expertise relating to the
use and development of multimedia applications and systems.
Other functions: Performs other library related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Academic: M.L.S. or its equivalent from an ALA accredited library school.
Experience: One to two years work in an academic library setting including
experience with AV materials, development of multimedia applications or
systems, and faculty liaison experience preferred. Expertise with NOTIS and
in the use of Internet/WWW reference sources is also preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS OR REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work effectively in a team
setting. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. Must
be committed to public service and be able to interact tactfully with
faculty, students, and members of the community.
