NOTICE OF VACANCY
SYSTEMS/COLLECTION MANAGEMENT SERVICES HEAD
SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY
TENURE-TRACK POSITION

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides leadership for and manages a new division
encompassing library systems, collection management (including
acquisitions, collection development, technical services, document
delivery), and special collections/archives.  Establishes goals, sets
priorities  and develops work assignments in collaboration with faculty,
coordinators and unit heads in the Division; represents the Division on
the Library Management Team and participates in library-wide planning and
policy-making.  Leads the Library Systems Group in internal systems
planning and management and in work relating to implementation of the
INNOPAC Library Information System and the CSU Unified Information Access
System.  Plays a leadership role in the implementation of INNOPAC,
including automation of current manual processes for serial ordering,
payment, check-in and bindery functions.  Oversees a collections budget
of over $2.5 million.  Coordinates the work of Special Collections
Council (comprised of Special Collections/Archives, the deBellis
Collection of Italian Culture, and the Labor Archives & Research Center).

QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA accredited MLS; a minimum of 5 years of appropriate
experience with progressively responsible administrative assignments,
including significant systems responsibility/expertise and management of
at least one of the above named collection management areas.  Broad and
demonstrable knowledge of technical services and collection
development/management, including budget planning and management;
demonstrated knowledge and skills related to library systems (including
internal local area networks and/or intranets, network connectivity).
Demonstrated leadership ability; strong analytical and problem solving
skills; excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
with diverse faculty, staff and students.  Ability to work within and to
foster a collaborative, collegial environment.

Tenure-track appointment at the Associate or full Librarian level; rank
and salary dependent upon qualifications and experience (minimum $49,044).
As faculty members, librarians are expected to meet general faculty
requirements for tenure and promotion.

PAUL V. GALVIN LIBRARY
ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
ELECTRONIC RESOURCES LIBRARIAN

The Paul V. Galvin Library seeks a creative, energetic, and highly
motivated individual to serve as Electronic Resources Librarian.

This mid-level position has responsibilities in the area of selecting,
evaluating, and managing electronic information resources, provides
reference, bibliographic instruction, and collection development services.
Acts as the Library webmaster.  This includes the management of the
library web server, the authoring of all library web pages, and
identification of new electronic resources for the site.  Also includes
the testing and evaluation of new Internet and database software, staff
and user training, and compiling feedback from users.

QUALIFICATIONS

An MLS from an ALA accredited library school.  Demonstrated knowledge of
the literature and databases in engineering and the sciences.
Proficiency in the use of a wide range of Internet software (WWW, telnet,
ftp, etc.) as well as proven experience writing HTML, a working knowledge
of OPACs, CD-ROMs, DOS, Windows 95, and standard word processing,
database, and spreadsheet applications.   HTML proficiency should include
a working knowledge of Java and/or CGI scripting and other web-applicable
language skills for adapting back-end resources for interactive access by
end-users.  A degree in engineering or science is preferred but not
required.  Candidate will be expected to demonstrate broad understanding
of the role of technology in today's and tomorrow's library,
well-developed interpersonal and communication skills as well as
initiative, flexibility and the ability to work creatively in a rapidly
changing environment.  Ability to quickly adapt to and learn new
software, commitment to providing services to a diverse user population,
ability to work with staff members and the public in a friendly manner,
flexibility and willingness to embrace change.
