Director, West Virginia CONSULT

Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center of
West Virginia University
The Director is responsible for leadership, development and
administration of the West Virginia CONSULT network for rural health
providers, from planning through evaluation. The Director reports to the
Associate Vice President for Rural Health and directly supervises three
support staff. The primary duties include: administering the policies
and procedures of the West Virginia CONSULT Network, an outreach program
of the Robert C. Byrd Health Science Center's Office of Rural Health,
maintains contact with network users throughout the state, and
coordinates the day to day network and department activities, and
working collaborative with all health sciences schools of the University
System of West Virginia to design and implement training and management
of the instructional technologies within the West Virginia Rural Health
Education Partnerships for the state. Position requires weekly travel
within the state, and occasion travel to out of state meetings and
conference. Duties will also include management of student scheduling
and tracking system for WVU students, grant preparation and management,
development and management of annual budget, Negotiation with
contractors, vendors, and/or consultants. Further duties include:
monitoring utilization and costs of systems and services, serving as
the liaison between the university library system and the program and
users, negotiating with contractors, vendors, and/or consultants.
Qualified applicants will possess an awareness of developments and
changes in information technology and knowledge-based information
services, show evidence of effective administrative, project management,
and supervisory skills, demonstrate instructional design, course
development, and training skills and the ability to search various
knowledge-based information resources (i.e. Internet, Grateful Med,
MEDLINE, etc.) Knowledge of a wide range of telecommunication
applications and demonstrated conceptual and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and complete tasks with minimum
supervision. Familiarity with the knowledge-based information needs of
rural health professionals and students, demonstrated ability to
establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of
individuals, including: rural providers, state-level personnel,
consultants, and other personnel.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications: Master's degree required with a minimum of four years
professional experience in any of the following fields: computer
sciences or systems, library science, instructional technology, health
care administration, or related fields. Four years progressively
responsible experience in health care information technology
applications; program development, management, or administration
experience as well as grant writing and policy development is required.

We are currently looking for a person to serve as our Systems
Administrator, WebMaster, and Cataloger. While this may sound like
a lot of work for one person, we are an extremely small academic
institution (less than 500 students), with a small library staff (4
professionals), and a small collection (65,000 titles, with a
growth rate of 2,000 books per year) so the work load is varied, and
do-able.

JOB TITLE: Associate Librarian for Systems and Cataloging
NATURE OF DUTIES: Designs, promotes, and implements library
systems and databases; establishes documentation and evaluation of
cataloging policies and procedures: runs automated systems and
network; diagnoses software & hardware problems; repairs PCs &
Macintoshes; performs original and copy cataloging using OCLC;
manages Student Computer Center and the Campus Internet connection
(including all training); manages student assistants; provides
training for library staff in applications; prepares statistical
reports and develops long and short range plans.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Associate Librarian
for Systems and Cataloging is an experienced professional who designs,
promotes, implements, and administers technical services and automated
systems.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the College Librarian.
SUPERVISION GIVEN: Supervises cataloging, network and computer
center assistants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree in Library Science
from an ALA accredited program. Two years of automated library
systems and two years of cataloging experience. Knowledge of AACR2,
MARC formats, LC classification, LCSH, and OCLC. Knowledge of
DOS, PC Networks, system testing and system debugging. Ability to
catalog European language materials and knowledge of at least one
foreign language. Demonstrated supervisory, teaching, communications,
and organizational skills. Interest and willingness to participate in
ongoing professional training and development.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Management of Novell networks
and Internet connections. Significant original cataloging
experience. Broad liberal arts education or completion of the St.
John's College program and a reading knowledge of ancient Greek and
French.
STATUS: Exempt, full-time.
COMPENSATION: $25,709 (min.) to $30,430 (mid) annually, with an
excellent benefits package.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLEGE & LIBRARY: St. John's
is a four-year, non-sectarian, liberal arts college offering
undergraduate and graduate programs devoted to reading and discussing
the Great Books of Western civilization, and a graduate program in
Eastern Classics. Classes are small with a student body of 480 and
over 60 faculty. The Library has 70,000 volumes, is automated
(Micro-VTLS), fully networked (Novell 3.12), and maintains the
college
Internet node and web pages. The 250 acre campus, at an elevation of
7,400 feet, is located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo
mountains overlooking the city of Santa Fe.

Strong analytical/communication/interpersonal skills. Preferred ability

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Director of Technical Services,
manages SIRSI's Unicorn library automation system, including diagnosing
and resolving system problems. Works closely with the University Systems
Specialist to integrate library services with the campus' LAN and wide
area network. Serves as primary systems training and resource person.
Serves as cataloging resource for technical services staff and performs
original cataloging. Manages other technical services activities as
required. May require some public services assignments including evening
reference duty. Participates in weekend rotation for System backup.

UNIVERSITY: Sul Ross State University which is located in the scenic
Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University
System, is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor's and
Master's degrees and has an enrollment of approximately 2,500 students on
campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation 4,480 feet and on the periphery
of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine experiences mild winters and cool

The Oklahoma Department of Libraries (a state library) has an opening
for a "Training Specialist" position, with a salary of $2,485.58 to
$2,982.70 per month.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
--developing training plans for the familiarization of the state's
libraries with the automation-based services currently provided by the
ODL Office of Library Technology; and,
--developing, implementing and assessing training strategies for new
