POSITION: LAN Analyst I, University Libraries, Wright State University
Wright State University is seeking an energetic, creative, and flexible
individual to serve in the
Libraries' Automation Services Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for operations and maintenance of the
Libraries' Novell
local area network and for training library staff in the use of networking
software: Analyze
system hardware and software; identify and resolve security and system
performance problems;
participate in the selection, implementation, and evaluation of new products and
services;
develop policies and procedures for daily operations; schedule, organize,
document, and verify
system backup. Responsible for LAN database management and systems; balance
system loads,
provide for restoration of lost or damaged data. Provide staff support for
OhioLINK and its
operations in the absence of the Systems Librarian. Serve as a liaison between
the Libraries and
system vendors.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelors degree in computer
science or related field, or equivalent. Must have experience managing a Novell
local
area network, preferably in a library environment. Knowledge of major
administrative
software packages (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, database management,
presentation software).
Preferred: Experience managing an integrated library system and library
automation projects.
Experience with OCLC and Innovative Interfaces systems. Excellent written and
oral
communication skills. Ability to work successfully in group setting to
facilitate discussions and
build consensus. Experience working in a multi-type network. Experience in a
library
environment. Knowledge of Unix. Experience working with the MARC formats.

SALARY: $29,247 (Minimum). Benefits include 22 vacation days/year, 10

The American Library Association (ALA) Office for Information Technology Policy
is seeking an
individual interested in working with ALA staff, members, and other
organizations to affect national
telecommunications and technology policy. ALA advances the values of
librarianship to promote the
public interest and the participation of people of all ages and circumstances in
a free and open
information society. ALA is the world's oldest and largest national library
association in the world with
57,000 members including libraries, librarians, library trustees, and other
library supporters.
Working as a member of ALA's Office for Information Technology Policy (OITP),
part of ALA's newly
expanded Washington, D.C. operations, the successful applicant will:
* provide information on relevant information technologies affecting ALA's
public policy positions.
* provide analysis of relevant technology policy issues;
* act as a resource for the ALA Washington Office, ALA's federal relations arm,
on technology policy
issues;
* represent the association in various policy forums;
* create and manage programs to help educate the profession and the public on
technology policy issues.
ALA has a strong history of influencing national information policy through the
work of its members and

Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA accredited library education

and experience in working for a membership organization. The position will
report to the Director, ALA
