I would argue against using LC and for using a classification
scheme such as Dewey, allowing for multiple classifications per
resource, and perhaps restricting the depth of class number assignment
to a certain hierarchical level. I think people would be willing to
scan through 20's of recources under a class number rather than demanding
an extremely specific classification. Dewey is more logically
structured, and not as subject to change at the level which you might
choose. It is available in machine-readable from (I believe from
OCLC), and Kern Markey Drabenstott has done work on using Dewey as
an access point for OPACs (under the name Markey). LCSH lacks
sufficient logical structure, as does LCC (at the least the notation
is not expressive, and Dewey's is).
