Library Automated and Networked Services Manager (Information
Systems Analyst II), Arlington County (VA) Public Libraries. ISO
team player to be responsible for management of the Library
Automated and Networked Services Unit. Specific duties include:
planning, managing and integrating the infrastructure that supports
electronic library information service to the public across all
library systems and subsystems - CD ROM LAN and integrated
information system with WWW access (1997 implementation); managing
vendor (turn key) information system, day to day information
systems operation of 10 sites including a HELP Desk; database and
system security, management of the Administrative LAN; coordinating
work of staff in Automation Unit; Homepage, Internet and WWW
technical support, planning, developing and designing future
functions and enhancements, staff training; participating in
interdepartmental and departmental teams supporting
electronic information delivery and the infrastructure. Employee
will be required to travel to Library Branches to troubleshoot or
assist staff when need arises.
Minimum requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or
university with a Bachelor's degree in computer science,
information system management or a related field plus two years
experience in network and systems analysis as well as software
applications and at least one year in systems management and
planning. Starting salary $40,924-$49,562 (grade C10) based on
experience.

The following is a position for a library director that is available at our
institution, and we hope to see applications from some of your membership.
DIRECTOR: SUNY HEALTH SCIENCES LIBRARY (SYRACUSE)
Having dedicated a new state of the art facility in February 1996,
SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse seeks a library director who will
lead our excellent staff into the 21st century. The new director must
provide leadership in the development and adoption of current and evolving
information technology to meet the information needs of the library's
clients.
Candidates must have an MLS degree from an ALA accredited school, a
minimum of 15 years experience in an academic medical environment, a
minimum of 5 years administrative experience including budgeting and
personnel responsibilities. Membership in the Academy of Health
Information Professionals and participation in national library
organizations are preferred.
The library serves four colleges (Graduate Studies, Health Related
Professions, Medicine and Nursing), University Hospital and Clinics, and
the Department of Veterans' Affairs Medical Center. A Resource Library for
Region 2 of the National Network of Medical Libraries, the library serves
the information needs of health care providers throughout Central New York.
The general public's need for health information is met through the
services of the library's Health Information Center. Library facilities
include a very active audiovisual and microcomputer department, and a small
but well equipped rare books/archives/medical history department. Library
statistics include: 178,877 vols, 46,500 monograph titles, 3,632 AV titles,
and 1,418 current serial titles. Staff: 10 librarians, 13 support staff.
The Library Director reports to the Provost.
Salary Minimum $85,000 with an excellent benefits package.
